The 13-inch M4 MacBook Air can use two external displays while its own screen remains active. With two Dell U2723QE monitors, start by checking two direct USB-C video connections. The documented TS4 alternative reduces the laptop connection to one cable; it does not make unknown cables compatible.

Choose ports before choosing a dock

The direct plan avoids buying a dock when you own the reference displays and cables. The dock route is useful when reconnecting one laptop cable matters enough to justify the extra hardware. Price is not checked here, so neither path receives a cheapest-product label.
The ports must match the diagram
Use the TS4 socket labelled Computer for the host cable. Use each downstream Thunderbolt 4 socket for one monitor. On the displays, choose USB-C 90W video input. A nearby USB-C data socket has the same shape but does not replace that input.
- Connect and power both displays with their original video cables.
- Connect the supplied TS4 power supply and Thunderbolt host cable.
- In macOS Displays, choose separate extended desktops and 3840 × 2160 at 60 Hz for each.
- Arrange the screens to match your desk. If a display is absent, test it directly before replacing the dock.
Keep the documented ceiling separate from this plan
Apple lists two external displays up to 6K at 60 Hz for this exact M4 model. This page evaluates a narrower 4K/60 SDR connection. It does not establish HDR, VRR, gaming latency, wake reliability or every higher refresh mode. TS4 host power is documented up to 98W; actual charging negotiation is a separate outcome.

U2723QE supports 3840×2160 at 60Hz through the USB-C 90W video input. Its original cables include USB-C to C 1m and DP to DP 1.8m. Data-only USB-C is not video.
