Does this apply to the 13-inch and 15-inch M5 Air?
Yes—for the exact 2026 M5 models in Apple records A5 and A9. Both sizes have two Thunderbolt 4 (USB-C) ports and the same documented external-display ceiling. This page does not transfer that rule to an M5 MacBook Pro, an older Air or a similarly named dock.

Apple says closing the lid does not raise the M5 display count. This resource keeps the laptop open because that is the pre-filled reference case; the host maximum is still two external displays when closed.

Neither route is labelled universally better or cheaper. Start direct when you already own the two screens and their video cables. Use the documented TS4 route when one laptop cable and the dock’s other ports solve a real need.
How to connect two 4K60 monitors
- Confirm the exact 13-inch or 15-inch 2026 M5 MacBook Air in About This Mac.
- For the direct route, connect one original Dell USB-C video cable to each laptop port. For TS4, connect its supplied host cable to the rear Computer port, connect the supplied power supply, then use the two downstream Thunderbolt 4 ports.
- Connect the other end of each Dell cable to a U2723QE USB-C 90W video input. Do not substitute a same-shaped USB-C data port.
- Power both monitors, select their USB-C inputs, and choose Extend in macOS Displays.
- Set both reviewed screens to 3840 × 2160 at 60 Hz SDR. If one is absent, test that monitor and cable directly before replacing equipment.
No DisplayLink install or screen-capture permission is part of either native route. If the exact monitor, cable, dock revision or target mode differs, use the planner’s missing-information result instead of assuming compatibility.
What this documented plan does not prove
Apple’s higher 6K/60 and 4K/144 ceilings describe the host. This planner evaluates the narrower 2 × 4K/60 SDR path with exact Dell U2723QE screens and their original cables. NYBreaking has not physically tested wake reliability, HDR, VRR, gaming latency, closed-lid thermals, charging under sustained load or every high-refresh combination.
CalDigit currently names M5 Macs, documents up to dual 4K/60 for compatible dual-display computers and shows two USB-C monitors on the downstream Thunderbolt ports.
