THE SHORT ANSWER

ASUS’s documented answer for ROG Xbox Ally X docking is its own Bulwark line — not a ranked shopping list. The Bulwark Dock DG310 is designed and optimized for the ROG Xbox Ally series (stand fits Xbox Ally 2025, Xbox Ally X 2025 and Xbox Ally X20 2026). It is a driver-free 6-in-1 USB-C DP Alt Mode + PD dock: HDMI 2.1 (up to 4K144 / 8K30 with HDR/VRR/ALLM), 3× USB-A 3.2 Gen1 5Gbps, Gigabit Ethernet and USB-C PD in (20V/5A up to 100W). A fixed 60 cm 90° USB-C cable delivers up to 80W out when you supply a ≥100W charger (charger not included). Single HDMI only — one display. The earlier Bulwark DG300 is a 7-in-1 with HDMI 2.1 up to 4K144/8K30 + VRR, up to 100W PD out and up to 140W input, marketed for high-performance handhelds like ROG Ally. Software updates auto-blank the handheld display on dock; Bulwark or the ROG 100W Gaming Charger Dock can trigger ALLM on supported Smart TVs; Bulwark enables VRR. Pair the external controller before docking so it becomes Player 1. Third-party docks sit outside ASUS’s FAQ — undocumented here.

1. What “best dock” means in ASUS’s own docs

This page maps official ASUS / ROG documentation for docks that ASUS designs around the ROG Xbox Ally family. It is not a third-party ranking, affiliate “top 10,” or a claim that NYBreaking physically tested any dock.

  • ROG Bulwark Dock DG310: ASUS FAQ and press materials position it as the accessory built for the ROG Xbox Ally series — Game Mode / Xbox recognition on supported TVs, one-touch Bluetooth pairing, and a stand shaped for Xbox Ally (2025), Xbox Ally X (2025) and Xbox Ally X20 (2026).
  • ROG Bulwark Dock DG300: ROG’s product page describes a 7-in-1 dock with HDMI 2.1 and high PD headroom, designed for high-performance handhelds like the ROG Ally (broader than the Xbox Ally-shaped DG310 stand).
  • ROG charger docks: ROG’s living-room docking article cites the Bulwark Dock and the ROG 100W Gaming Charger Dock for ALLM on supported Smart TVs. The older Ally TV guide still documents the ROG 65W Gaming Charger Dock for original Ally big-screen setups — useful context, not a substitute for DG310 specs.
  • Third-party USB-C docks/hubs: Outside ASUS FAQ wording. They may work over USB-C DP Alt Mode + PD on paper, but this site does not invent compatibility, Game Mode or VRR claims for them. For generic no-signal isolation on other hosts see docking station not detecting a monitor.

2. Bulwark DG310: ports, PD and Xbox Ally stand fit

From ASUS’s DG310 FAQ (no driver; Windows 11+, macOS 12.3+, Android 14+; USB-C DisplayPort Alt Mode + USB Power Delivery):

  • 6-in-1 ports: HDMI 2.1 + three USB-A 3.2 Gen1 (5 Gbps; two at 5V/0.9A, one at 5V/1.5A) + Gigabit Ethernet (RJ-45) + USB-C PD input (20V/5A, up to 100W).
  • Host cable: Fixed 60 cm USB-C cable with a 90° connector; ASUS lists 5 Gbps data and up to 80W power out to the handheld. To reach full 80W out, ASUS recommends a USB-C PD charger rated 100W or higher. Charger is not included.
  • HDMI 2.1: Up to 3840×2160 @ 144Hz or 7680×4320 @ 30Hz, with HDR, VRR and ALLM. Actual mode depends on the handheld’s output, the HDMI cable and the TV/monitor. One HDMI only — one display at a time.
  • Stand fit: Shaped for ROG Xbox Ally (2025), Xbox Ally X (2025) and Xbox Ally X20 (2026) without blocking the display or exhaust vents. Other USB-C DP Alt Mode devices can still use the ports over the cable; they simply do not get the Ally-shaped cradle.
  • Box contents: DG310 dock, user manual and warranty card (ASUS FAQ). Dimensions ~181.6 × 86.6 × 31.6 mm; ~262 ±10 g; black.
  • Press notes add that a connected Ally can be recognized by supported TVs as an Xbox so the TV enters low-lag Game mode, and that holding the dock’s Bluetooth button for 5 seconds enters pairing mode for controllers/headsets/keyboards.

3. Bulwark DG300 vs charger docks (and older Ally TV steps)

  • DG300 (ROG product page): 7-in-1 dock with HDMI 2.1 up to 4K @ 144Hz or 8K @ 30Hz, VRR, up to 100W USB-C Power Delivery out to the device, and up to 140W input from an external charger. Marketed for high-performance handhelds like the ROG Ally, plus phones/laptops — not the Xbox Ally-specific stand language used for DG310.
  • ROG 100W Gaming Charger Dock: Cited alongside Bulwark in ROG’s Xbox Ally docking-update article for triggering ALLM on supported Smart TVs.
  • ROG 65W Gaming Charger Dock: Documented in ROG’s original Ally-to-TV guide (USB-C + HDMI + USB-A path, projection mode, controller pairing). Treat it as legacy Ally context; verify current Xbox Ally X power needs against ASUS’s current Bulwark/100W docs before assuming 65W is enough for your session.
  • For how USB-C DisplayPort Alt Mode differs from Thunderbolt on other hosts (context only), see USB-C vs Thunderbolt.

4. Software docking behavior ASUS documents

ROG’s May 2026 Xbox Ally docking article (update BIOS/firmware via Armoury Crate Update Center; latest Armoury Crate and Xbox app) describes:

  • Auto display handoff: Connecting to a monitor or TV automatically turns the handheld’s built-in display off and moves content to the external screen.
  • ALLM / VRR: With the ROG Bulwark Dock or ROG 100W Gaming Charger Dock, supported Smart TVs can deliver Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM). The Bulwark Dock also enables Variable Refresh Rate (VRR).
  • Game Bar Display Widget: Change resolution, refresh rate and projection mode from Game Bar without digging through full Windows display settings.
  • Controller as Player 1: The first external controller paired becomes Player 1 and disables the Ally’s embedded controller for docked play. ROG recommends pairing the controller before docking for best results. Gamepad Cursor mode helps navigate non-controller UIs.
  • DG310 FAQ separately notes automatic Game Mode when connecting an ROG Xbox Ally to a TV through the dock.

5. Practical single-display living-room checklist

  1. Use a USB-C PD wall charger at the power level ASUS documents for your dock (≥100W into DG310 for full 80W out; follow DG300’s up-to-140W input / 100W out figures on that product page).
  2. HDMI from the dock directly to a TV HDMI port rated for the mode you want (4K high-refresh often needs HDMI 2.1 / Ultra High Speed cable). Bypass sound bars and AV receivers while testing.
  3. Seat an Xbox Ally-series handheld on the DG310 stand (or cable-only for other USB-C hosts). Confirm the handheld display blanks and the TV lights.
  4. Pair the external controller before docking if you want it as Player 1. Use the DG310 Bluetooth button (hold 5s) or Windows Bluetooth settings as appropriate.
  5. If the TV stays blank, isolate power → HDMI cable → TV input → another display before blaming the handheld. Parallel handheld docking patterns (different vendors): Steam Deck dock not connecting to a TV and Nintendo Switch 2 dock not working.

6. Limits, third-party docks and when to stop

  • DG310 is single HDMI — do not expect dual-monitor MST from this dock’s FAQ.
  • Resolution/refresh is capped by handheld GPU output, cable and TV input — ASUS’s 4K144 / 8K30 figures are dock HDMI capabilities, not a promise every game will sustain them.
  • Third-party “Ally docks” and generic hubs are not covered by ASUS’s DG310 FAQ. If an official Bulwark path works and a third-party unit fails, use that maker’s support; this page will not invent a ranked alternative list.
  • For ASUS service, warranty or RMA paths, use the support channel tied to your region and the FAQ/product page you followed — not a blog workaround.
