Nintendo’s Switch 2 TV-mode articles start with the correct accessories: the Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter (MOD. NGN-01) or another adapter rated at least 54W, the Nintendo Switch 2 dock (model BEE-005), and an Ultra High Speed HDMI cable. The original Switch AC adapter (HAC-002), original Switch dock and original Switch HDMI cable are not for Switch 2 TV mode. Seat the console with its screen facing the dock’s front panel, remove cases, plug HDMI directly into the TV (bypass sound bars while testing), pick the matching TV input, install the latest system update, and run Dock Update in System Settings. If the TV Output LED keeps flashing or a second dock works, Nintendo’s path is dock or console service — not a third-party dock claim.

- Use the Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter (MOD. NGN-01) on the dock, or another adapter whose output is at least 54W. Nintendo states the original Switch adapter (MOD. HAC-002) can charge the Switch 2 console when plugged in directly, but cannot power docked TV mode.
- Use an Ultra High Speed HDMI cable (HDMI 2.1 / “Ultra High Speed” marked on the cable or packaging). Nintendo says the HDMI cable included with the original Switch is not for Switch 2 TV mode.
- Connect HDMI from the dock directly to a TV HDMI port. Temporarily remove sound bars, home-theater receivers and video adapters while testing.
- Place the console in the dock with the screen facing the same direction as the dock’s front panel. Remove protective cases before docking.
- Power the TV and select the exact HDMI input you used. If the handheld still works undocked but the TV stays blank, stay on this page; if the console itself is blank undocked, follow Nintendo’s handheld power troubleshooting first.
2. Official Switch 2 dock vs original Switch / third-party docks
- Official Switch 2 dock (model BEE-005): Nintendo’s flashing-LED article tells you to verify this model. The same article notes the Switch 2 dock is not compatible with Nintendo Switch, Switch – OLED Model, or Switch Lite.
- Original Switch dock / AC adapter / HDMI: Nintendo’s blank-screen article states the AC adapter, dock and HDMI cable included with Nintendo Switch cannot be used to play Switch 2 in TV mode.
- Third-party docks and hubs: Nintendo’s licensed-accessory steps say replacing a different accessory with the licensed Switch 2 dock may resolve the problem. This site does not claim any third-party dock is verified for Switch 2 — Nintendo does not document those products in the articles cited here.
- For a general one-change-at-a-time fault tree on dock video paths (laptop context, same isolation idea), see docking station not detecting a monitor.
3. System update and dock firmware
- Undocked, open System Settings → System → System Update and install any available update (Nintendo’s blank-screen and flashing-LED flows both start with a current system).
- With the console able to update, open System Settings → System → Dock Update to check Nintendo Switch 2 dock firmware. If an update stops early, Nintendo says to try the step again.
- Restart the console (hold POWER ≥3 seconds → Power Options → Restart). If it does not respond, Nintendo’s flashing-LED article says hold POWER for 20 seconds to force shutdown, then power on again.
- After updates, power-cycle the dock path: undock, unplug HDMI from the dock, unplug the AC adapter from the wall and the USB-C cable from the dock/AC plug, wait 30 seconds, then reconnect power, HDMI and the console.
4. TV path: input, ports, VRR and resolution
- Confirm the TV input matches the HDMI port in use. Try a different HDMI port on the same TV.
- On the console, Nintendo’s blank-screen flow includes lowering or adjusting the TV Resolution settings if the image still fails.
- If video is still missing, Nintendo’s no-video article says try turning Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) off in the TV’s settings, and try a different Ultra High Speed HDMI cable or a different TV.
- When the console is docked with power and a TV connection, Nintendo says the console screen should go black. If the handheld screen stays on while docked in that state, Nintendo’s no-video article treats that as a dock service case.
- Bandwidth-limited 4K paths on other platforms are a different stack; for docked 4K@30Hz patterns on PC docks see 4K monitor stuck at 30Hz through a dock — do not treat those PC steps as Nintendo procedure.
5. Heat, vents and intermittent TV dropouts
- Nintendo documents a separate case where the dock becomes hot and then stops TV output or USB charging. Unplug the AC adapter, let the dock cool, keep the dock in open airflow, and clear the dock air vent of dust, stickers or accessories.
- Keep console top vents and the dock vent clear. Nintendo’s no-video article also checks that the console and dock are not warm before continuing power tests.
- If a LAN cable is connected while docked, Nintendo notes the console still uses some power in sleep and a slightly higher temperature can be normal — that note is not a free pass for blocked vents.
- If the dock fan does not run when the dock/console gets warm in TV mode, Nintendo’s overheating article says the dock needs service.
6. When Nintendo says to stop and request service
- If a second Switch 2 dock works with the same console, cables and TV, Nintendo’s blank-screen article says only the original dock needs servicing.
- If the TV Output LED keeps flashing after the licensed adapter, dock model check, updates and 30-second power cycle — and another dock is unavailable or also fails — Nintendo’s flashing-LED path is console (and usually dock + adapter) service.
- Do not invent third-party “fixed” docks here. Use Nintendo’s online service request from the support article you followed.
- Related handheld docking on PC hardware (different OS, different rules): Steam Deck dock not connecting to a TV.
