Use the exact Dell model and graphics configuration. XPS 13 9340 and Latitude 7450 have two Thunderbolt 4 ports; XPS 14 9440 has three. The right USB-C port on an XPS 16 9640 with RTX 4070 is not Thunderbolt 4. A WD22TB4 output-pair restriction remains separate from the laptop’s port capability.

The table is not a complete Dell-family compatibility database. GPU configuration matters, especially on XPS 16. Record the public model and graphics choice without sharing a service tag in a public comment.
WD22TB4 and TS4 answer different wiring questions
For the WD22TB4, HDMI and MFDP USB-C video are mutually exclusive. A plan using both at once is invalid even when the host can drive two screens. Choose another simultaneous arrangement from Dell’s display table, then verify resolution, refresh, GPU and available bandwidth.
The TS4 uses a Computer host port and separate downstream Thunderbolt/DisplayPort display choices. Its current native two-display capability is not a blanket certification for every XPS model, graphics configuration and monitor combination. Treat charging as its own requirement
A dock can show both screens while the laptop battery falls under a demanding workload. Check the laptop’s documented input requirement, the dock’s host delivery limit, the actual bundled power supply and any manufacturer-specific high-power charging support. Do not assume a USB Power Delivery ceiling and a Dell-specific charging figure are interchangeable.
The TS4 specifies up to 98W host charging. That figure is a capability ceiling, not a promise to sustain every XPS workload. For WD22TB4, use the exact Dell host/bundle charging table; do not carry an Apple or non-Dell charging statement into a Dell laptop verdict. Retain the laptop charger if the manufacturer’s supported setup requires it.
A useful update and isolation order
- Confirm the dock’s supplied power supply, host lead and a Thunderbolt-capable laptop socket.
- Test one monitor on its selected input and known suitable cable; establish a direct connection baseline where possible.
- Use Dell’s support page for the exact laptop and dock to check BIOS, graphics, Thunderbolt and dock firmware guidance.
- Apply updates according to Dell’s instructions with stable power; keep a record of versions and the symptom before/after.
- Add the second display using a documented simultaneous output pair, then select Extend and confirm both modes in Windows.
If the picture appears and disappears, follow the flicker isolation sequence. If it never appears, start with the missing-monitor checklist.
