Sarah Jessica Parker’s career is defined by her role as Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City.
But after nearly thirty years of playing the fictional fashionista, Parker is opening up about the number one thing fans get wrong about her.
In a new Q&A with British Voguethe 61-year-old actress was asked what the most common misconception about her is, to which she bluntly replied, “That I’m Carrie.”
Parker didn’t elaborate on the differences between herself and Carrie in the quick interview.
However, she was willing to make a suggestion when asked what Carrie’s Substack would be called, joking that it would be named, “I Couldn’t Help But Wonder.”
Parker entertained viewers for 27 years as a New York City dating and sex columnist through the original show, several films and a sequel series, And Just Like That.

After starring in the original Sex And The City from 1998 to 2004, Parker and her co-stars directed two films: 2008’s Sex And The City and 2010’s Sex And The City 2.
More than a decade later, Parker, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon – minus original main cast member Kim Cattrall – returned for And Just Like That, which aired for three seasons from 2021 through 2025.
“Carrie Bradshaw has dominated my professional heartbeat for 27 years. I think I loved her more than anything,” Parker said in a statement after it was announced the show would end with its third season.
“I know others loved her as much as I did. I am frustrated, convicted, and rooting for her,” Parker continued. “The symphony of all those emotions has been the best soundtrack and the most consistent companion.”
Although Parker claimed an identity independent of Carrie, there is one thing in common: their love of fashion, especially shoes.
Asked about the “one shoe” she would pick “to live in,” the Hollywood vet told Vogue: “If you let me choose one, I’d say the ankle-length Vivienne Westwood DIY Roman sandals from the Gold Label Spring/Summer 2009 collection.”
And elsewhere in the interview, she said her greatest achievement is her family with her longtime husband Matthew Broderick, 64.
The stars married in 1997 and share son James, 23, and twin daughters Marion and Tabitha, 17.

She said, “I would share that [accomplishment] with my husband: the family we created together.
‘My three children are good children. We’re happiest when we know we can be together, but sometimes I think, “I wish you’d given me that wash sooner!”
Parker joined the world in mourning Dolly Parton last week when the country music icon and humanitarian died at the age of 80.
She shared three photos of Parton on Instagram and wrote, “No!!!!!! never met @dollyparton but my god did i love her.
“I don’t think any of us had to know her to love her. One of the best this country has ever produced. Legend. Really and truly. Forever.
“And always advocating for those she knew and understood took a champion. What a loss. But aren’t we so lucky, so lucky to have the endless gifts she shared?’
She closed the tribute: “Godspeed and RIP. You will be missed terribly. Xxx, SJ.”
