Nicolas Cage’s neighbors in Malibu have been ordered to evacuate their homes as a result of the massive sinkhole that erupted on his street and swallowed up the driveway of his $10.5 million beachfront mansion.
Firefighters discovered the disaster early Tuesday morning after responding to a suspected gas line rupture, a public information officer said KTL.
That day, the city of Malibu issued an order emergency order declaring an “imminent danger” to the residents of Cage’s street, Sea Level Drive.
Seven homes had now been red-tagged, meaning they had been marked as unsafe for occupancy due to the ‘hazardous conditions’ created by the sinkhole itself.
A further 24 homes had to be red-tagged because ‘safe vehicular access’ was hampered by the damage to the road.
Cage, who bought his home at 2024 Sea Level Drive, is not known to have been spotted near the property since the crater appeared.
The Daily Mail has reached out to Cage’s rep for comment.

According to the City of Malibu, the sinkhole had an astonishing estimated width of 30 by 60 feet and a depth of approximately 80 to 30 feet.
Such a “large portion” of Sea Level Drive has “collapsed” that large emergency vehicles such as fire trucks can no longer pass through, the proclamation said.
“Gas supply to the affected area has been cut off, and water supply may also be stopped if conditions require,” authorities noted.
The scale of the threat was exacerbated by increased tides and rainfall caused by Hurricane Marie, as well as a particularly strong El Nino, which the government forecast gives a 90 percent chance of escalating into a “super” event.
Evacuees will be able to take refuge in a temporary shelter the American Red Cross is setting up at Malibu High School, the city of Malibu advised on its website.
Photos of the destruction Tuesday showed the once palatial property on the edge of a huge crater that destroyed the driveway, part of the adjacent street and a portable toilet.
The luxury home was cordoned off with construction cones and workers could be seen assessing the situation in the sinkhole and along the street.
The hole was reportedly the result of coastal erosion.

KTLA reporter Rich Prickett, who covered the incident from the air, said no one appeared to be in Cage’s home at the time.
“Significant damage to this house, or at least the driveway to this house here in Malibu,” he said. ‘It looks like no one was home. Besides, the house looks like some kind of renovation is going on.”
According to KTLA, no one was injured.
Located in a highly desirable oceanfront area, the home includes a rooftop terrace with Jacuzzi, tall glass walls, multiple bedrooms and was the previous owner’s ‘happy place’.
The house was built in the 1990s by the late Jose Liberman, co-founder of Liberman Broadcasting, and remained in his family until it was sold to Cage.
“Yes, Nicolas Cage bought our house in Malibu,” said Lenard Liberman, Jose’s son and co-founder of Liberman Broadcasting. The New York Times in 2024.
“My parents went there on the weekends and it was my dad’s ‘happy place,’” he explained.
‘My father died and my mother simply couldn’t go home anymore. Too many memories,” he added.

Born Nicolas Kim Coppola, Cage is the son of the late American academic and author August Coppola, as well as the nephew of filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola and his actress sister Talia Shire.
The family includes Cage’s cousins, filmmaker Sofia Coppola and actor Jason Schwartzman.
His grandparents were composer Carmine Coppola, who scored many of Francis’ films, and Italia Coppola, who also appeared in her son’s Godfather films.
Over the decades, Cage has built a hugely impressive acting career with roles in the films Moonstruck, Raising Arizona, Gone in 60 Seconds, National Treasure and an Oscar win for Leaving Las Vegas.
Last year, Cage legally changed his name to “Nick Cage” to avoid becoming Coppola’s “clown cousin.”

The name was inspired by Marvel character Luke Cage, a surname he thought was ‘cool’.
‘I am Nick Cage in life, and I am Nick Cage in front of the camera. “It’s better to be the patriarch of my own little family than the clown cousin on the fringes of someone else’s, so I decided I’d put it out there and be ‘Cage.’
“Cage” is a name I loved coming across in comics – I just thought it was a cool name – and I grew up in a very avant-garde, artsy family and there was talk about John Cage and the experimental compositions he made. I was looking for something like “James Dean”; I was looking for something short and sweet.
‘I thought, well, I’ll keep the name ‘Nicolas’, because my father called me Nicolas – with the French spelling, which has always frustrated me, because everyone adds an ‘h’ to it. I don’t know why he gave me the French spelling! But he did.’
Whether he prefers “Nick” or “Nicolas,” the actor told Variety, “I’m both! I think people know me as both.”
In 2021, Cage walked down the aisle for the fifth time when he married his much younger wife Riko Shibata, now 31 years old. They welcomed daughter August Francesca in 2022.
The actor also has sons Kal-El, 18, with ex-wife Kim and Weston, 33, with ex-girlfriend Christina Fulton.
