Horror legend Cassandra Peterson returns to the small screen with a new witch role.
The 74-year-old, who is best known for her role as Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, has officially joined the cast of RL Stine’s Pumpkinhead 2.
The actress plays a witch in the family-friendly horror film, which is being released as a Tubi original.
“RL Stine and I have been scaring kids for a long time, so participating in Pumpkinhead 2 was such a treat,” she said Entertainment weekly in a statement.
Josh Van Houdt, vice president of Tubi’s Original Scripted Content, said the pairing of Peterson with children’s author Stine “feels both nostalgic and completely fresh.”
Horror fans are already excited about the project, with one commenting: “We better see Cassandra Peterson receive a Saturn Award for her performance in this film!”

RL Stine’s Pumpkinhead 2 premieres on Tubi on October 9.
Although Peterson is best known for her role as Elvira, she has continued to appear in various film and television projects in recent years.
She starred in Rob Zombie’s 2022 version of The Munsters and ABC’s The Goldbergs the year before.
In 2021, Peterson shocked the world after revealing that she had been in a secret long-term lesbian relationship with her assistant Teresa Wierson for the past 19 years.
Reflecting on his coming out at age 70 during an appearance on The Tamron Hall Show at the time, Peterson said, “It feels scary and exciting, but I’m also very relieved, and so is my partner.”
She added, “Keeping secrets all the time, you know, it gives you gas!”

Peterson also admitted that many of her fans were shocked by the news due to her on-screen character as the vampire Elvira.
“I think it’s because of the character I play. Of course I’m attracted to men. She’s a super sexy character, that’s ‘straight’, because she’s a bit of a horny dog, she’s always chasing guys.
“And so I think it’s a little shocking when people say, ‘Hair of all people?’ I think that’s why it’s so important right now.”
Peterson recalled a quote from actor Danny Trejo that said, “You’re only as sick as your secrets,” adding, “It’s not a good feeling to keep that hidden from people.”
“Of course my best friends knew, but the public didn’t, I don’t think anyone had any idea.”

The pair met at Gold’s Gym in 2002, when Peterson was still married to her manager Mark Pierson.
Wierson became Peterson’s personal trainer and then her personal assistant.
Although Peterson was not initially attracted to other women, their bond grew when Peterson divorced Pierson in early 2003 and eventually became a couple.
“Elvira has always had a thing for men, and men have a thing for her, so I was afraid that if I announced that I was no longer living a ‘straight life,’ my fans would feel lied to, call me a hypocrite and abandon me,” Peterson admitted in her memoir.
However, fans have since rallied around Peterson since she came out, with the actress remaining as popular as ever.
