Trans actor Elliot Page (showing in New York in July) has revealed the bleak reality of his career following the huge success of The Odyssey and criticism of its ‘woke’ casting
This is because Page’s casting in The Odyssey was a major controversy when Elon Musk launched a months-long social media tirade over his and Lupita Nyong’o’s inclusion in the film.
Page did not directly address the Tesla CEO’s frequent attacks on the film’s “woke” casting, but did say he has noticed the blockbuster’s impact.
He said, “I mean, I’m just an observer like everyone else.
“Whether I’m watching the news when I’m in Canada and CBC makes a reference in terms of politics, or you know the endless memes.”
Page plays the Greek soldier Sinon in The Odyssey and only appears about five and a half minutes into The Odyssey’s 173-minute running time.
Since his move, he has appeared in just a handful of projects, including seasons 3 and 4 of Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy and the 2023 film Close to You.
The actor already worked with Nolan sixteen years earlier in the Oscar-winning film Inception from 2010.
However, the director’s adaptation of Homer’s Greek epic faced backlash over its casting.

Musk responded to Walsh by writing, “True,” which drew resistance from stars like Alec Baldwin and Jimmy Kimmel.
Nyong’o recently faced renewed backlash for her answer to a question about what she would ask Homer if she met him today.
“So, Homer, what do you think of the screen time these women have been given, considering how little you’ve spent with them? Do you remember us?’ she said on Jake’s Takes.
Social media users disparaged Nyong’o, joking that her response was “straight out of idiocy” and that she “thinks it’s still 2016 and everyone is going to stand up, clap and scream, “YAAAASSSSS QUEEN.”

Meanwhile, Page, who rose to fame as Ellen Page with an Oscar-nominated role in the 2007 film Juno, was showered with infamy after becoming the subject of false rumors that he would play the legendary warrior Achilles in The Odyssey.
As speculation swirled, Musk labeled the potential hiring choice “one of the dumbest and most twisted things I’ve ever heard.”
After news broke of Page’s actual role, Musk reposted a tweet that read, “I’m not mocking her masculinity. I deny its existence.’
While you’re talking to Rolling stone Earlier this year, Nolan opened up about reuniting with Page, saying that working together again had been “exciting.”

In May, Nolan gave an interview in which he explained the creative impetus for hiring Travis Scott, a world-famous rapper who was nevertheless untested as an actor.
“I cast him,” Nolan explained Time: ‘because I wanted to nod to the idea that this story has been passed down as oral poetry, which is analogous to rap.’
Other stars cast in the project include Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway and Charlize Theron.
Fan criticism has become so intense online that the official X account for Nolan’s Odyssey has restricted comments on his posts.
