'Perez Hilton thinks it's 2016': After a knife livestream, friends open the hospital doors to reveal a truly desperate situation... disturbing request at Katy Perry's bedside... and his tragic 'wandering'

For Perez Hilton, the grueling road to recovery following his horror livestream will continue long after his physical wounds have healed.

Nearly a month after his hospitalization in Florida, friends have told the Daily Mail that the 48-year-old gossip blogger has no idea what state he is in and, worse, what year it is.

According to a source close to Hilton, it appears he has “lost a decade” and believes the year is 2016.

Additionally, Hilton has begged friends to bring singer Katy Perry to his bedside, insisting the pair are “best friends” because he “made her a star” and that she “would be nowhere without him,” the source said.

But Hilton and Perry, 41, who were once publicly close as he defended her early career, have barely spoken in years, the source claimed, making his plea all the more heartbreaking.

“He’s not all there,” the source added.

Those closest to Hilton — whose memory of his livestream last month was already spotty — now fear the worst. A family friend of more than 20 years told the Daily Mail that even a quick phone call shows Hilton “is still not doing well at all.”

On August 4, Hilton (real name is Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr) took to TikTok to record a truly shocking live video. Shocked fans watched as he, naked and covered in blood, repeatedly injured himself with a large butcher’s knife. The footage was live for about 15 minutes before the social media site stopped the feed. Shortly afterwards the police arrived.

Hilton was hospitalized under Florida’s Baker Act, which allows for the temporary and involuntary detention of individuals in mental health crisis. Since then he has no longer had access to his mobile phone or the internet. All conversations with the outside world take place via the hospital’s landline.

The family friend described the gossip blogger as someone who tended to “wander” and wander off in the middle of a conversation. Although Hilton is said to have moments of clarity, he is also described as ‘all over the place’.

“One minute he’s thinking about moving on and making plans for when he gets back to work,” the friend said. “The next minute he’s talking about running away completely.”

Even from his hospital bed, Hilton is said to be fixated on the future of the celebrity news site of the same name that made him internet infamous in the mid-2000s and is still paying the bills despite a marked decline in popularity.

‘He asked how the site was doing. He asked how people talk about him, what they say,” the friend said. “His family has assured him that everything is fine, but he doesn’t believe it.”

Before this crisis, Hilton was said to be looking for work outside of his blog, with reality TV pitches reportedly fizzled out before they got off the ground.

Although traffic to his site soared after his shocking livestream, that eerie curiosity was fleeting, with one source saying visitors quickly tuned out.

His small team has since started posting celebrity news again on the site, but it remains unclear whether readers will return in droves, or whether Hilton will ever be good enough to take the reins again.

For now, the man who built a successful career online is now unable to work and has been cut off from both his phone and the internet while under medical supervision, the family friend said.

‘He can’t do any work at the moment. His family handles all his affairs,” a source explained. ‘His mother and sister ensure that he receives the best care. They are hopeful.”

Hilton is also covered in medical gauze after doctors stitched up dozens of cuts from the incident, sources say, and he also has limited mobility due to broken bones reportedly caused by a fall the night of the livestream.

His three children – Mario, 13, Mia, 11, and Mayte, eight – were at home when the incident began. It is unclear what the children saw before being taken out by his sister Barbara, who was also at home, but they have not visited their father since. A source close to the family said Hilton’s injuries are still too distressing for young children to see.

A Miami judge granted Hilton supervised visitation from the hospital, while his mother, Teresita, has temporary custody. But he must first get a psychiatric clearance, and any contact must be supervised by an approved family member or therapist.

“He’s not in a place mentally where he can really see the kids, and he’s feeling pretty alone right now,” the source said.

Meanwhile, sources previously told the Daily Mail that Hilton had not received a single card, bouquet of flowers or even a text message from celebrities close to him.

“All the people he wanted to reach, all the celebrities he mended fences with, everyone who said he’s their friend. None of them are doing anything,” said an insider.

Now, in the moments when Hilton’s confusion subsides, the family friend says, the full extent of his new reality begins to dawn on him.

“He’s feeling very isolated right now, very lonely,” the friend said. “He’s very hard on himself and regrets all these things he’s done and where life is now. He is despondent. He’s nowhere near ready to come out. He still has a very, very long way to go.”

But Hilton needs something to look forward to once he recovers — and being a father could give him a reason to keep going.

“He can move forward by becoming a father, but let’s face it: from here it will be a matter of co-parenting with his family,” the friend said.

He must also focus on his health, while returning to work remains “a distant prospect.”

“He says he wants people to learn from him,” the friend said. ‘He can best do that by recovering mentally and physically. He understands that.’
