A 32-year-old man has died after being attacked on a London Underground platform while on his way home from Notting Hill Carnival.
Police rushed to reports of a ‘serious assault’ on the Central Line platform at Liverpool Street Station at 10.51pm on Sunday.
A man was taken to hospital in a critical condition but died yesterday. The British Transport Police (BTP) confirmed this.
It is believed the victim was attending the West London Carnival ‘family day’ and was leaving the event when he was attacked.
British national Jeremiah Maximo, 38, of Drydock Square, Barking, was previously charged with grievous bodily harm and was due to appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court today.
Following the victim’s death, BTP said they would apply to amend the charges, with the suspect now expected to appear in court at a later date.
The August Bank Holiday weekend marked the 60th anniversary of Notting Hill Carnival, with between one and two million revelers believed to have attended the event.
BTP Chief Inspector Sam Blackburn said: “First and foremost, our thoughts are firmly with the loved ones of the young man who has sadly passed away. They are being supported by specially trained officers while our investigation continues.

‘We continue to appeal to anyone who saw what happened and has not yet spoken to police to come forward and support our investigation. Every piece of information can be of vital importance to us.’
In an earlier statement, Mr Blackburn said: ‘We know the victim was traveling back from Notting Hill Carnival at the time of the incident.’
