Swift, 36, and Beyonce, 44, are currently the most decorated performers in the history of the VMAs, each with 30 gongs to their names.
Since Beyonce has no nominations this year, Swift only needs to win one award to become the reigning record holder, via the Associated press.
Madonna famously performed at the very first VMAs in 1984, when she burst out of a giant wedding cake while dressed in a wedding dress for a rendition of Like A Virgin.

Over the course of her four-decade-plus career, Madonna has racked up a total of 19 VMAs, meaning that to match Swift and Beyonce’s current record, she’ll have to triumph in every category she’s nominated in this year.
