Lil Nas X has announced the death of his mother, Tameka Hill, as he continues his own journey through treatment and recovery.

The 27-year-old rapper and pop artist, who said he spent time in rehab earlier this month, went to work on it Instagram Saturday to pay tribute to his mother.

‘RIP TO THE WORST EVER! LOVE U FOREVER MOMMY,” the two-time Grammy Award winner wrote. “This one’s going to hurt.”

He posted a trio of photos, including a throwback photo of Hill posing in a striking two-piece outfit while holding a bottle in her hand; a second of Lil Nas and a childhood photo of the rapper with his mother and one of his siblings.

Lil Nas He said in previous interviews that he had tried to go to her rehab without success.

‘I never really talk about my mother. She’s an addict, so we don’t have the closest relationship,” Lil Nas Variety in January 2020. “Even when I tried to make her better, it didn’t quite work. But there is still love.”

The news comes just days after the That’s What I Want chart-topper shared a video update on social media confirming he had spent a few months in rehab.

“I’ve been in rehab for a few months,” he said in a video on his social media. “And since then, I’ve been back home — whether it’s in Atlanta with my family or in Los Angeles with myself and friends and stuff — trying to ground myself and get out of my head.”

But he assured fans that he was “doing much better” and was “smelling the roses.”

He revealed at the time that he was working on ‘new music’ and thanked his fanbase – the ‘Montourage’ – for their loyalty.

At another point in the video, he joked that he didn’t really know what to post because of how his fans would react despite their continued support.

“Since I got out of rehab, everyone ‘OD’ has been nice to me,” he said. ‘I could say ‘hey’ and everyone says ‘oh, he’s so brave’. I can try to post a thirst trap on my Instagram story and everyone will say, “Keep fighting, king.”

He also shared a video of himself holding a cake with the caption: “10,000th day.”

“Tomorrow is my 10,000th day alive and I’ve made it. Many of you won’t make it, but I made it.”

The rapper’s arrest in August 2025 came after he was seen wandering around Los Angeles’ Ventura Boulevard wearing nothing but his underwear and a pair of cowboy boots.

According to prosecutors, his encounter with police was chaotic, with Lil Nas [to] injuring three police officers during the incident.

The incident took a darker turn when he was rushed to hospital over fears he had overdosed.

The rapper, meanwhile, denied the claims and pleaded not guilty to the charges, which include assaulting an officer and resisting arrest.

Judge Alan Schneider took pity on him and ruled in April that the Old Town Road hitmaker could undergo treatment rather than spend time behind bars.

The judge told the court that the August 2025 drama “deviates from his normal behavior,” linking it to the rapper’s bipolar disorder diagnosis.
