John Travolta wore a beret to an event in Los Angeles on Sunday, less than four months after causing an online style stir at the Cannes Film Festival.
Travolta, 72, wore a maroon beret as he hosted the official Ramones 50th Anniversary Tribute, held at Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sunday.
The appearance came after Travolta revealed why he preferred the style, amid a strong backlash from fans reacting to his first appearances.
The star of classics like Grease, Saturday Night Fever and Pulp Fiction completed his punk rock-inspired ensemble with a black leather biker jacket, a black Ramones T-shirt, black jeans and sunglasses.
The New Jersey-born actor was pictured on stage with Linda Ramone, the widow of the late Johnny Ramone, at the event, which was held in honor of the 50th anniversary of the band releasing its self-titled debut album.
The Daily Mail has reached out to Travolta’s representatives for further comment on the story.

Travolta was scheduled to air his latest directorial effort, Propeller One-Way Night Coach, at the event, along with an earlier film in his career, the horror classic Carrie.
“Two years ago I had the pleasure of experiencing the Hollywood Forever Johnny Ramone Tribute for the first time,” Travolta said in a press release. “It was great, and I’d love to come back again for the Ramones tribute!”
He added, “Showing something new, my directorial debut, Propeller One-Way Night Coach.
“And something old, the fiftieth anniversary of the original Carrie. It’s going to be a fun evening.’
The event also included a performance of Ramones songs by the supergroup Cretin Family, consisting of Billie Joe Armstrong, Travis Barker, Tim Armstrong and CJ Ramone.
Rock icon Billy Idol was also in attendance, joining the ensemble on stage at the event.
Last May, Travolta shared the meaning behind the eccentric beret looks he wore to the 2026 Cannes Film Festival after was mercilessly roasted by fans for wearing three versions of the French-style cap during the festival.
That there was a big reason why he wore the chic headpiece during his directorial debut, the cinema legend explained in a new interview with CNN on May 18.
The outing came months after Travolta revealed why he preferred this style, amid a strong backlash from fans who responded to his first outings as a tribute to “old school directors.”

‘The old school principals wore berets and glasses. And I thought, ‘That’s what I do,'” he told the outlet, referring to his own turn behind the camera directing Propeller One-Way Night Coach.
He added that the striking look would help him remember the event in the future: “I have been making films for more than 50 years, but when I look back I can’t tell the difference between the events.”
‘And I said, ‘This time I’m a director. You are an actor, play the role of a director. Look like an old-fashioned director,” he said, adding that he had “looked up pictures” of famous filmmakers before him.
“I’m going to pay tribute to being a director,” he said of his arresting red carpet look.
“So I’m going to play the role of director and when I look back I know, ‘Oh, that was Propeller One-Way Night Coach, that was Cannes, that was when I won the Palme d’Or.’ And it will give me liveliness.”
While he didn’t name the specific cinematic idol he drew inspiration from, the actor may have channeled The Godfather director Francis Ford Coppola, who is known for wearing berets.
The legendary Swedish film director Ingmar Bergman also loved the headgear.

Travolta’s beret streak began heading into the event, when he wore a navy blue version of the hat while piloting his own plane to Cannes with his daughter Ella Bleu, 26, on May 15.
‘Big day, big night in Cannes. Stay tuned!’ he captioned an Instagram video showing the journey.
Later on May 15 and 16, the actor turned heads twice when he stepped out with new versions of the striking look.
He arrived on the red carpet for the first time in a beige beret and with a freshly dyed beard.
Travolta later modeled the crazy headgear again, this time wearing a black beret with matching glasses, during a photocall for his new film Propeller One-Way Night Coach.
Travolta was once again joined by daughter Ella Bleu, who stars in the film and looks stylish in a black and white dress.
The actor and trained pilot wrote and directed the film, with the official synopsis reading: “Young aviation enthusiast Jeff and his mother embark on a cross-country flight to Hollywood that turns into a life-changing journey full of unexpected moments.”

Travolta’s transformation was quickly roasted by fans online who declared, “Who is that?”
Others wrote: ‘The hat is fine, but what about the beard? He’s in his 70’s and his beard is black lmao.’
‘Had some cosmetic work done. Looks 30 years younger.
“It’s strange when seventy-year-old men dye their beards black.”
“It must be so nice to have so much money that you can dress like a surrealist painter on the Left Bank of Paris in the 1930s.”

Travolta was later seen crying as he received an honorary Palme d’Or ahead of the world premiere of his directorial debut.
He said: ‘This is beyond Oscar. Surprise compliment! I can’t believe this. This is the last thing I expected.’
He told Cannes director Thierry Fremaux: “You said this would be a special night, but I didn’t know it would mean this.”
“This is a humbling moment, so thank you, Thierry, from the bottom of my heart. When I met you in November, I didn’t expect my film to be accepted.’

Propeller One-Way Night Coach is based on the 1997 children’s book of the same name that Travolta wrote.
Travolta and his late wife Kelly Preston also share sons Ben, 15, and the late Jett, who tragically died in 2009 at the age of 16 after suffering a seizure during a family vacation in the Bahamas.
The book also paid tribute to Travolta’s lifelong passion for aviation and was inspired by his own childhood memories of watching the planes take off from New York’s LaGuardia Airport.
