Tributes have been paid to a ‘true gentleman’ who died after being electrocuted while working at a five-star hotel.
An inquest heard Jason Gledhill was working alone in a maintenance room at the luxury Southampton Harbor Hotel when he was fatally injured.
The 55-year-old, from Denton, Greater Manchester, was found dead at the Southampton Harbor Hotel in the city’s Ocean Village development on August 13.
Senior coroner for Hampshire Christopher Wilkinson said a post-mortem examination by Dr Brett Lockyer found the father’s cause of death was electrocution.
Mr Wilkinson adjourned the full inquest due to take place on June 30, 2027 at Winchester Coroners’ Court, Hampshire.
An online CV stated that Mr Gledhill worked as an installation manager, having previously worked as an electrician and network planner for British Telecom.
His death has led to an outpouring of tributes, including from his wife Paula.
She said in a public post on social media on behalf of herself and daughter Georgina: ‘Our hearts are completely broken by the sudden and unimaginable loss of Jason.
‘Thank you for all the love, kindness and support shown to us during this incredibly difficult time.’

Denton St Lawrence Cricket Club, where Mr Gledhill had been a member of the club committee, described him as a ‘real all-round clubman’.
A minute’s silence was held in his memory ahead of Saturday’s match, a statement said he had ‘given so much of himself’ over the years and played an important role in the club.
“Jason was a true all-round clubman and someone who always had time for everyone,” the club said.
‘He has given so much of himself to our club over the years and played an important role in so many areas.
“More importantly, he was a friend to many and a familiar, welcoming face who will be remembered with enormous affection.
“His passing is a great loss for the club and for everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. He will be greatly missed.
“Rest in peace, Jason. You will always be remembered as a true gentleman and will be greatly missed by everyone at the club.”
At the time of the incident, three fire engines, two ambulances, an air ambulance, a police van and an electrical van were on site.
Police were spotted with bags of evidence including a pair of Adidas trainers, a set of keys, a wallet and a power drill. A private ambulance later left the scene.
The waterfront hotel’s phone lines were temporarily unavailable as a result of the incident, while the main entrance was cordoned off.
Hampshire Police previously said: ‘We received a report of a man injured at the Harbor Hotel just before 10.20am on Thursday 13 August.
“A man in his 50s was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and officers are in contact with Environmental Health.”
An investigation into the circumstances of Mr Gledhill’s death is being carried out by Southampton City Council, the Health and Safety Executive said.
