Jelly Roll did not back down after responding to a joke he made calling President Donald Trump a “fat pig” while guest hosting Jimmy Kimmel Live! this week.
On Tuesday, the three-time Grammy winner, 41, addressed the backlash from people who said he essentially insulted his own audience after taking shots at Trump during his monologue on Monday’s episode.
He said he was surprised that the comments were “the strangest thing I’ve ever done to stun people,” describing himself as a “former felon”; “a drug dealer who lost 300 pounds;” and a person who “has tattoos all over his face.”
Jelly Roll, whose full name is Jason Bradley DeFord, added: “What a turn of events: who would have thought I would get in more trouble with the president than Rosie O’Donnell?”
The Save Me singer said he thought Trump should have a thicker skin in the Oval Office.

“Let’s be honest: Every American president should be able to take a few jokes, right?” said Jelly Roll. “They also have to deal with gas prices, health care and the occasional international conflict, but beggars can’t be choosers.”

The country music star raised eyebrows on Monday after aiming punchlines in the president’s direction while speaking about the IndyCar Freedom 250 event in Washington, D.C.
Jelly Roll joked that “the president seemed to enjoy the IndyCar race, which was a real change for him because he normally only enjoys his own race.”
“Trump also rode around the track in his motorcade doing what they call the ‘lap of honour’ – which sounds like a loyalty program at a strip club.”
He then shifted the topic to Trump’s performance, saying Sunday’s ride was “the only laps Trump has done lately.”
After a montage of clips of Trump alluding to people’s appearance, Jelly Roll said, “Well, Mr. President, from one fat pig to another, take it from me that physical fitness is very important.”
“It’s crazy, think about this, everyone. In recent years I have lost 300 kilos. That means I’ve lost a whole Donald Trump — and let’s face it, based on his approval ratings, it seems like most of the country wants to do the same.”

Jelly Roll said he believed many viewers were “just surprised that I had an opinion at all.”
“They see a man who looks like me and assume the only opinion I have is whether I prefer my meth crystal or a classic!”
Jelly Roll said jokes about the president are part of the high-profile position, noting the Democrat who edged Trump in the 2024 presidential election.
“Look, y’all, I understand some people are mad at me for making fun of Trump,” he said. “But if you wanted me to make fun of Kamala Harris, you should have voted for her!”
He addressed people who suggested a boycott of his material in an ironic manner.
“So for those who are threatening to stop listening to my music based on my comments last night, I want to say with conviction, go ahead, because I’m going to continue to speak my truth, or my name wouldn’t be Post Malone!”
