Kyle Sandilands shows off his softer side in new trailer for Channel Seven’s Australian Idol reboot

Channel Seven’s Australian Idol reboot is scheduled to hit screens on Monday 30th January.

And a new trailer for the singing competition offers a sneak peek at some up-and-coming young talent.

Even judge Kyle Sandilands, known for his harsh verdicts on TV talent shows, seems impressed by the auditions.

Even Kyle Sandilands, known for his harsh verdicts on talent shows, looks impressed by the auditions in a new trailer for Australian Idol, which premieres Monday, January 30.

The radio host shares the judging panel with ARIA winner Amy Shark, pop star Meghan Trainor and American music legend Harry Connick Jr.

The trailer opens with the panel listening to an up-and-coming idol wannabe, before moving into a montage of the four judges’ enthusiastic responses.

“Absolutely a yes from me,” says Kyle.

Meghan tells another singer: ‘You’re a star!’ leaving the hopeful young woman overwhelmed with surprise.

Reacting to another audition, Kyle tells a fresh-faced singer, “This is exactly what I’m looking for.”

Other scenes featured in the trailer show the cast and judges visiting a spectacular location in the Outback.

The new preview stands in stark contrast to an earlier trailer released last month.

In that promo, Kyle told some hard truths to several mediocre hopefuls, leaving his fellow judges stunned.

‘No way, you’re crazy. That’s a bunch of crazy stuff,’ she told a contestant, who put on an off-key performance.

When another disappointed singer tells him they’ve never performed in front of a crowd, Kyle replies, “Yeah, that goes without saying.”

However, Kyle was impressed by an artist who gave a candid rendition of Split Enz’s Message to My Girl.

‘You have the potential to go all the way. I loved it,” she told him.

Earlier this year, the KIIS FM star promised viewers that they won’t get a politically correct Kyle when he returns to screens as a judge on Australian Idol.

‘Oh my gosh, are you kidding me?’ he told Daily Mail Australia when asked if he would let the wake culture stifle his famously unfiltered persona on the family show.

Kyle added that his role on the judging panel is to “cut the crap.”

Channel Seven first announced plans for a 2020 Australian Idol reboot.

At the time, the network scheduled the show for a 2022 launch, but it will now take place in the first quarter of 2023.
