The RSPCA is desperate to find homes for puppies after two of their rescue dogs gave birth to a combined litter of 21 puppies.
Five-year-old Cane Corso Kila has given birth to the largest litter of puppies ever seen at the RSPCA rescue center where she is being cared for.
She arrived at the animal charity’s Chesterfield and North Derbyshire Branch in July after being rescued from a property in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, due to welfare concerns.
Volunteers had no idea she was pregnant until she was spayed at the vet and gave birth to a huge litter of 14 puppies six days later on August 3.
The center is now caring for 21 puppies after another dog in their care, Susie, gave birth to ten puppies on July 28.
Chloe Gee, who works at the branch, said, “By the time we found out Kila was pregnant, we had already taken Susie in knowing she was pregnant.
‘When we discovered that we would have two litters we were quite surprised; especially since they only had to get together a few days apart.”
Kila’s brood is the highest number the center has ever seen, but unfortunately three of them did not survive.

The center is also asking for donations – so they can purchase toys and other much-needed items for all their residents – as well as donations of puppy food
Cedric, Clark, Cornelius, Guinness, Jones, Lorenzo, Lucille, Marion, Roderick, Sarah and Winnie will be ready for their new home from September 28.
Any families interested in giving them a forever home are urged to contact the shelter.
Chloe added: “Both Kila and Susie are so sweet. They are such good mothers and we support them as best we can, including the two who are hand-raised.
‘It’s been a really busy time, but we’re so proud to have beautiful, wiggly puppies who are getting bolder and funnier by the day.
‘However, caring for all the puppies has really taken its toll on the whole team and on our funds, so we would be very grateful to anyone who can help raise these beautiful families.’
