NSW firefighters have dramatically freed a cat named Snow trapped inside a wall, in a heartwarming rescue.

Firefighters in a thorough two-hour operation used grinders, power saws and drills to cut through plaster and release it at a house in Sydney’s Marrickville on Tuesday.

When the startled creature emerged, they gave their new ‘furry friend’ a hug and a sip of water before ‘letting him find his own way home’.

But the drama was not over for the confused moggy.

Disoriented after his owners moved into his new home three days earlier, the cat wasn’t sure how to get back to it.

His desperate owner, 28-year-old Amma Asantuaa, told Daily Mail Australia that she spent the next 24 hours looking for him.

A Sydney cat avoided a near catastrophe after going missing, being rescued by fireworks, getting lost again and finally being recovered by his devoted owner.

‘I thought it was very strange, why would they do that, just let a cat go without its owner?’ she said.

NSW Fire and Rescue said they tried to contact local vets after hours but made the decision to let him go thinking he was a local and would find his way home.

When Ms. Asantuaa’s friend saw a news story on TV about a white cat released by the fires, he told the distraught young woman.

He contacted NSW Fire and Rescue for more information, only to be told the cat was long gone.

So, around lunchtime on Wednesday, Ms. Asantuaa set out on a desperate mission to find Snow, whom she had first rescued as a stray kitten.

He walked up and down the streets between Sydenham Road and the end of Marrickville Road, which is around 45 minutes one way.

Amma Asantuaa, 28, who recovered her cat, Snow, after searching all day on Wednesday asking about the fires, released her cat without its owner.

Around 9:30 pm, he miraculously found him, hiding in a house in the middle of renovations, about 700 meters from his new home.

“I’ve done miles and miles today, some people might think I was being really dramatic, but Snow is like a child to me,” he said.

“I got him as a stray and had him under my wing ever since.

“I had enough of it, it was devastating to lose it and greater to find it.

‘It’s a big weight off my shoulders, I can relax. I can eat again.

I haven’t eaten all day.

Snow, however, said he “has had a great feed and is relaxing.”
