Pregnant Megan McKenna reveals she was rushed to A&E after having an allergic reaction to her IVF medication: ‘It was a nightmare’

Megan McKenna has revealed she was rushed to A&E after suffering a severe allergic reaction to her IVF medication.

The former TOWIE star, 31, took to Instagram on Tuesday to describe the ‘nightmare’ hospital journey after she became ‘really unwell’ and her ‘belly doubled in size’.

She announced earlier this month that she was expecting her first child with footballer fiance Oliver Burke after undergoing IVF treatment.

But Megan, who has been open about her IVF journey, revealed she had a very ‘scary’ reaction to her medication, prompting her partner Oliver to rush her to hospital.

In a candid video, she said: ‘I’ve been a bit quiet because I had an allergic reaction to one of the medications and had to go to A&E with Olly.

‘Things really weren’t going well for me. My stomach had doubled in size and it was a nightmare, so I absolutely stopped taking those medications.

Megan, who has Crohn’s disease, said she was ‘concerned’ that the reaction could affect her baby, but was reassured by doctors that the unborn child would be fine.

She continued, “My body is hypersensitive and it’s even scarier to have that because I worry it will affect the baby, but after talking to the doctors at the hospital they said it can’t actually affect have on the baby who has an allergic reaction.

“So that’s why I haven’t been here, but I feel so much better and I’ll be back to cook for everyone.”

Megan, who cut a comfortable figure wearing a brown lounge set in the video, went on to talk about her IVF experience.

She said: ‘Our baby is currently the size of an avocado. How crazy is that. I’m going to share with you how we got this baby in my belly through IVF.

‘We performed a medicinal IVF cycle transfer. Before you got a transfer, we had our embryos frozen and so we had a lot of eggs and 15 became embryos so we would literally have a football team that we would freeze.

“And then a few days later you have the thawing process like day two, day three, day four, and our embryos didn’t survive, we only had two left, one of which is the one I had put inside me.

‘I had injected myself before to thicken my uterine lining. I injected myself with a progesterone and I had to do it at the same time every day.

‘It was so many hormones and it was intense. And I also took a baby aspirin at night with all my vitamins.

‘I also did acupuncture like every week and when I went to the clinic they had their own special person and a good acupuncture thing.

“You’re lying on the bed and they basically take out your embryo and it’s in this tube and you’re so careful and you have no anesthesia.

“When I went in to collect the eggs, you were basically sedated. I was even nervous about peeing afterwards because I didn’t want to drop it.

‘After we leave, anyone who has had fertility treatment will understand that you just have to get McDonalds fries afterwards.

“I took all my medications and vitamins until I was 10 weeks and continued to take baby aspirin until 12 weeks.”

Giving advice to her 2.8 million followers, Megan said the wait to see if she was pregnant was ‘so scary’.

She said: ‘A tip: don’t wear perfume or wash with anything smelly before the transfer as the embryo apparently doesn’t like it.

“Then you have the two-week wait and believe me, this is the worst two-week wait you will ever have.

‘I really thought it hadn’t worked because I felt nothing but those severe period pains and my back started to hurt.

‘I was too scared to look, it was positive and I took another test to be sure. We had to go back to the clinic and an internal scan was made and there was a heartbeat.’

Megan revealed her pregnancy earlier this month with an emotional video, writing: “A little bit of you and a little bit of me… now we’re a family .”

She later confirmed she was 13 weeks pregnant, while she and Oliver said they were excited to go through with the pregnancy, but admitted the journey had not been smooth sailing.

Megan explained, “I’ve been really sick and stuff. It’s been a roller coaster. But it all turned out fine.’

The TV personality said they are very excited about the pregnancy and happy that they no longer have to keep their baby a secret.

Megan and Oliver got engaged last June after just five months together, after the footballer popped the question during a romantic getaway to Montenegro.
