Melissa Caddick’s brother has sensationally stormed out of court after he was accused of ‘making faces’ during an inquest into her disappearance and presumed death.

Adam Grimley sat in the back of the NSW Coroner’s Court on Friday as Mrs Caddick’s husband Anthony Koletti testified during the inquest.

Deputy Coroner Elizabeth Ryan interrupted proceedings to warn Mr Grimley about “dramatic and distracting” facial expressions he made during questions from counsel for the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC).

“And if you can’t restrain yourself, I’ll ask you to see the proceedings in the adjacent court,” she said, before Mr. Grimley stormed out of the room.

Koletti’s lawyer, Judy Swan, was later also asked to ‘please control your facial expressions too’.

Ms Caddick was last seen leaving her home in Dover Heights in November 2020, just hours after ASIC and the AFP raided her home.

Her husband has told the inquest that he now accepts that his wife was a fraud, but still holds the corporate watchdog ASIC responsible for her presumed death due to their “cruelty”.

Koletti was taken to a statement he wrote to the court in July 2021 about the ASIC search warrant executed at the couple’s Sydney mansion on November 11, 2020.

“I believe she died as a direct result of ASIC’s negligence, cruelty and inhumanity,” Koletti wrote.

“Is that something you still say under oath today?” Dean Jordan SC requested on behalf of ASIC.

“Yes,” said Mr. Koletti.

“I suggest that your enforcement of that claim shows that you have completely lost your objective perspective regarding ASIC,” said Mr. Jordan, adding that it also showed that he had “completely lost the plot.”

“No,” said Mr. Koletti.

However, he did accept that the search warrant was justified at the time.

For years, Mr. Koletti believed that his wife was a ‘straight shooter’, a competent and well-organized financial advisor.

But he now accepted the fact that she was pretending to be honest and diligent while stealing millions from her family and friends.

“You now accept that you were also cheated by Mrs. Caddick?” said Mr. Jordan.

“Yes,” said Mr. Koletti.

“How did you end up finding out that Mrs. Caddick was a fraud?” asked Mr. Jordan.

For years, Koletti believed his wife was a “straight shooter,” a competent and well-organized financial adviser, the inquest learned.

“By paying attention to the legal proceedings and listening to Her Honor,” Koletti said.

He also wrote in a statement that he and Ms Caddick were not given any food, water and medical assistance they “needed urgently for 14 hours during the search.”

Koletti has in the past targeted ASIC’s lead researcher Isabella Allen, saying on Friday that he found her behavior “cold, abrupt and indifferent.”

“Remember this, my client, has acted at all times in a professional and perhaps aloof manner towards both you and Melissa,” said John Sutton, Mrs. Allen’s attorney.

“Okay, I accept that,” Mr. Koletti said.

Koletti insists he had no idea his wife was defrauding family and friends out of millions of dollars, nor did he ask her why the Federal Police and ASIC were suddenly searching their home in Dover Heights.

It was Mrs. Caddick’s last verified sighting before she disappeared without a trace the following morning on November 12.

The victims of Mrs. Caddick’s Ponzi scheme, mostly family and friends, lost $20-$30 million which she used to fund her lavish lifestyle

In February 2021, her decomposing foot, encased in a shoe, washed ashore on Bournda Beach on the south coast of NSW.

Expert evidence has shown that Ms. Caddick suffered from Narcissistic Personality Disorder, and the shame and humiliation associated with the exposure could have caused such intense psychological distress and possible suicide.

The investigation continues.
