Kieran Trippier signs a new contract at Newcastle United after starring in Eddie Howe’s solid defense… as the England right-back extends his stay at St James’ Park until 2025

Newcastle defender Kieran Trippier has signed a contract extension to keep him at the club until the summer of 2025.

The 32-year-old English right-back, who joined the Magpies from Atlético Madrid in January last year, has helped Eddie Howe’s side keep 16 clean sheets in all competitions this season.

Trippier told the club’s official website: ‘I am absolutely delighted to have extended my contract here. I have many words of appreciation for the coach, the owners, the fans and my teammates.

‘When I first came here they made me feel very welcome and I want to help the club achieve great things. It’s a positive moment for the club’s players and there’s no place I’d rather be.”

Newcastle boss Howe added: “It’s a fitting reward for the season he’s had.”

“He has been outstanding both on and off the pitch, showing true leadership at a difficult time when he first arrived, and now he stands out on a team that is doing well. I cannot praise him enough for everything he has given the club.

The England international went on to say that it was an easy decision to extend his stay at St James’ Park.

“I think it was easy because I am enjoying my football. I think I’m playing the best football of my career here at Newcastle.

“We are challenging for the cup, a good league position and it is a bright future for Newcastle.”

Trippier is correct in his assessment of Newcastle’s excellence this season, with Howe’s team in the Carabao Cup semi-final, while also sitting third in the Premier League, behind only Manchester City and Arsenal.

The Magpies have conceded just 11 goals all season thanks to the brilliance of their defence, including Nick Pope in goal as a final barrier.
