German football love triangle: 43-year-old Borussia Dortmund icon’s ex-wife, 37, swaps for a younger model in the form of 25-year-old Augsburg star

German World Cup winner Roman Weidenfeller has found himself in a love triangle with a current Bundesliga star, with whom his ex-wife is now reportedly dating.

The 43-year-old Borussia Dortmund icon announced his divorce from Lisa Rossenbach in November last year.

It was the second time they split, having previously done so in 2018 before reuniting two years later.

It is now claimed that the mother of Weidenfeller’s two children is dating a current Bundesliga star.

German publication BIL have reported that the management of Augsburg player Arne Maier – 18 years younger than Weidenfeller – has confirmed that he is in a relationship with the retired goalkeeper’s former wife.

Maier, 25, who is also 12 years younger than Lisa, is said to have first met her in November before they became a couple in January.

German gossip magazine Bunte claim that Maier showed his love for Lisa after scoring for his club in a match against Cologne during a 1–1 draw on 31 March.

To celebrate his goal, Maier formed an ‘L’ with his fingers.

Lisa’s previous relationship with Weidenfeller began after they met in a VIP lounge owned by her father – the boss of a construction company – after a match at Borussia Dortmund’s stadium in 2010.

Weidenfeller married Lisa in 2015, before the birth of their first child, Leonard, a year later.

They split in 2018, shortly after his playing career ended, before reuniting two years later.

Lisa gave birth to their second child, Luna, last May, but just six months later the former goalkeeper confirmed their divorce to BILD.

He said: ‘It’s true, Lisa and I are no longer a couple. We parted amicably.

“Unfortunately, we had to realize that it (their marriage) wasn’t going to work in the long run. For us, our two children come first. As parents, we naturally take care of their well-being together.’

Maier, meanwhile, previously had a relationship with German internet star Melissa Deines.

Deines has been in a relationship with Borussia Mönchengladbach striker Robin Hack since 2020 and celebrated the birth of their first child, Ameo, in November.

Deines and Hack had to deal with the heartbreak of a previous miscarriage before their son Ameo was born in November.

Weidenfeller played 453 games for Borussia Dortmund from 2002 until his retirement in 2018.

He also played five times for Germany and was part of their World Cup-winning squad in 2014, although he did not feature in any of their matches with Manuel Neuer in the comfortable No. 1 option.

Maier has made 83 appearances for Augsburg since joining from Hertha Berlin in 2022. He has played for Germany at all youth levels, but the midfielder is yet to make a senior start.

At the weekend, Maier was substituted as Augsburg lost 5-1 to Weidenfeller’s former club Borussia Dortmund.
