On Thursday, August 27, Leavitt served her last day in the Trump administration after becoming the youngest press secretary ever appointed.
Leavitt’s departure came as a shock to the public, as she announced earlier this month that she would be stepping down to spend more time with her family.
Now she has revealed more about why she quit her job Donald Trump‘s press secretary.
“I think the birth of my second daughter, as I said in my statement, really showed me that two children at home deserve and need their mothers’ constant attention and presence 24/7,” Leavitt shared. News Nation’s Markie Martin during a Thursday appearance on Morning in America.
‘They are very young. This is a very impressionable time. And of course we will never get these years back with our young children,” she explained.
Her departure comes just a few months after she gave birth to her second child, daughter Viviana ‘Vivi’, in early May.
She and her husband Riccio already share a two-year-old son, Niko.

“Welcoming my daughter into this world in May will change your heart as a mother,” Leavitt continued.
‘Only mothers understand that. And I just prayed about it and talked to my husband night after night about what to do.
‘I love this job so much… And sometimes in life you just can’t have everything at once. And I realize that I’m at that moment in my life right now.”
During the interview, she also praised her husband, describing how much he had sacrificed for their family over the past year.
“I have to thank my husband,” Leavitt told Martin. “He’s just been an angel and a blessing to me and my kids. He really gave up a lot to move to DC, a city he doesn’t know.”
“He took a step back from his own career to be here for me and support me, so thank you, honey, I love you,” she said.
She also called working for President Trump the “honor and blessing of a lifetime,” praising him for being extremely supportive of her and her young family.

The 29-year-old chatted while holding her newborn baby Vivi, while her husband stood next to her with their son in his arms.
While in the White House, Leavitt’s relationship with an age gap was a major topic of conversation and curiosity, as her husband is 32 years older than her.
She has previously detailed their relationship as an ‘atypical love story.’
“I met my husband during my congressional campaign. A mutual friend of ours hosted an event at a restaurant he owns in New Hampshire and invited my husband, ‘Leavitt explained during a conversation with Megyn Kelly in March 2025.
‘I was talking. We met and got to know each other as friends. And then we fell in love.’
When The Megyn Kelly Show host asked if there had been any thoughts in her mind about the age difference, Leavitt admitted that she initially had doubts about how the difference would affect the relationship.
‘Yes, of course. I mean, it’s a very atypical love story, but he’s incredible,” she said. “He is my biggest supporter, he is my best friend and he is my rock.”

As for what’s next for the press secretary, she said she plans to remain an adviser to the president.
And as the Daily Mail exclusively reported this week, there may be a future for her on ABC’s hit show The View.
Leavitt is said to be considering the idea of joining the morning show, which has received enthusiastic support from President Trump and other White House officials.
The View plans to host Leavitt shortly after she leaves the White House as a test run of sorts, a source said, but producers are serious about adding her to the all-female daytime lineup as a regular.
A second source told the Daily Mail that official talks have not yet begun, but ABC representatives have made it very clear to people close to Leavitt that they want her.
