According to the tax authorities, more than 200 British crypto investors are now millionaires.
New figures from HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) have revealed that 240 investors made capital gains of more than £1 million in the last tax year, making £717 million in profits.
Total taxable capital gains from crypto assets amounted to £1.38 billion in the year to April 2025, with the gains distributed among 17,600 individuals.
This represents an average profit of £78,000 per person.
This is the first time such data has been published after a new tax return section on crypto asset capital gains was introduced for the 2024/2025 tax year.

James Murray MP, Financial Secretary to the Treasury and Treasurer General, said: ‘Taxes are due on crypto profits, just like all other profits, and we want to ensure that people who make profits from crypto know what taxes they owe.
‘This important work supports the Government’s efforts to close the tax gap so that everyone pays their fair share for our vital public services.’
