The 50-year-old author sat down with Aniston, 57, at 92NY Residence to discuss his new book, The Book of Possibility, in front of an audience while on stage at the Kaufmann Concert Hall.
He talked about dealing with a medical crisis in his early 20s, when doctors discovered lesions on his spinal cord.
Curtis recalled being afraid to look up his diagnosis, saying he felt his body “frozen and freeze without the fear of what Google had to say about it.”
He added that he had overcome his fear and decided: “Tomorrow everything changes.”
“I’m not saying here that if the doctor tells you to do something, you should get up and leave,” the hypnotist explained about receiving a serious diagnosis. ‘What I’m saying is that you don’t have to live as a victim. You don’t have to live in your suffering. It can become your strength.’

Due to his condition, which causes him to limp, Curtis relies on a cane.
He said his advice for getting through a health problem is to “accept it and love it.”
However, he admitted that he wasn’t always honest about the cause of his bumps.
“I’d say I was in a motorcycle accident,” Curtis said. ‘I was so ashamed that I had a medical condition. I was broken somehow. I thought the motorcycle accident was a bit macho, to say the least.’
Over the course of 25 years, he said he “overcame” his insecure thoughts with “self-acceptance and self-love.”
During a fan Q&A after their 30-minute conversation, Aniston revealed a “deep fear” that Curtis helped her overcome by letting her moderate the event.
She made the revelation when asked to share “one possibility.” [she is] choose today.’
The Friends star responded that she “chose to overcome a very deep, deep fear of public speaking.”
At the end of the conversation, Aniston thanked the audience and warmly hugged her friend in front of the packed house before leaving the stage.
