ITV faces double standards allegations after refusing to share details of Phillip Schofield’s workplace romance investigation

  • The channel released a statement on Saturday saying an investigation had taken place

ITV was at the center of a double standards spat yesterday after it declined to say whether it had launched a full independent investigation into Phillip Schofield’s relationship with a much younger colleague.

The channel released a statement on Saturday saying an investigation had taken place and no evidence of the ‘on-off’ affair had been found, despite rumors swirling around the This Morning set.

However, ITV declined to disclose further details of the investigation, such as whether it was conducted externally or by an independent party, or when exactly it took place.

That contrasts with the full and robust investigation the broadcaster says it has carried out into Dr Ranj Singh’s allegations that This Morning has a ‘toxic’ culture of bullying and discrimination.

Dr. Ranj has accused This Morning of having a “toxic culture.”

The NHS doctor says he was ‘guided’ out of his role after raising concerns with ITV chief executive.

In response to his statement, which he posted on Sunday evening, an ITV spokesperson said: “At ITV we are fully committed to providing everyone who works with us with every opportunity to raise any concerns or comments…

“Following a complaint from Dr Ranj, we have appointed an outside and independent consultant to conduct an investigation.

“This external review found no evidence of bullying or discrimination.”

Despite being asked several times by the Mail whether a similar inquiry had been carried out into the Schofield affair, ITV has repeatedly refused to provide any further information.

A television insider said, “It’s always been one line for one and another for the other. But this is not right, they have to admit what happened here or they will forever be accused of double standards.’
