Dua Lipa discusses her gruelling regime on tour including her strict diet and the one ingredient she has to avoid

Dua Lipa has opened up about the extremely demanding regime she follows while touring as she prepares for her sixth tour for new record Radical Optimism.

The seven-time Brit Award winner, 28, chatted to Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett in the latest episode of their popular podcast Dish From Waitrose.

When Nick, 39, asked her if her eating habits were drastically different while on tour, Dua said: “Unfortunately. But I think once I get into the flow and I have a routine and my body is really strong and healthy, it just goes into endurance mode.

‘Then everything goes fine afterwards, because my body is already at a certain level. But yeah, there’s no drinking involved. I can’t have hot sauce,” she said, adding that she eats mostly steaks and vegetables.

Her strict but healthy diet routine is accompanied by an equally tough workout schedule.

“It’s just like rehearsals, no drinking, working out, just preparing back-to-back for all the shows that are coming up. Plus, I haven’t enjoyed doing a real touring show for a year, so I need to get my stamina back up before going to festivals.

“So it’s just running, dancing, singing all at the same time, to make sure I can hack it too once the adrenaline hits.

She explained that she sings and dances while rehearsing, clarifying, “I have to make sure that as we do new dance moves, a certain move doesn’t make my voice shake.”

As she tours the world, the two-Grammy-winning superstar makes sure she takes time to enjoy the city she’s in, as she admitted for her “it’s all about food.”

“I think about the trip and then I think about the food, and I start writing it down in my journal so I can reserve places to eat food, and my whole day revolves around food and everything in between.”

The One Kiss singer said she surprisingly has “more downtime” while touring.

Because I just have to think about that night’s show. So it’s all about finding the best restaurant in whatever city I’m in, the best like museums, things to see, being a real tourist in the city, like it’s my favorite thing to do.”

Speaking about her time working on her second studio album Future Nostalgia – which was released on March 27, 2020 – Dua opened up about how the sudden impact of COVID-19 and ultimately the global lockdown reversed her expectations.

When Nick, 39, asked her if her eating habits were drastically different while on tour, Dua said: “Unfortunately. But I think once I get into the swing of things and I have some sort of routine

“I was so excited about Future Nostalgia and making a really fun dance-disco record, and I was like, when it comes out, people are going to dance to it in clubs, and it’s going to come out and I’m going to do it. hear it everywhere. And then a lockdown takes place.’

The singer admitted at the time that this was “completely the opposite” of how she envisioned the album’s launch, although she noted, “But I think everything happens for a reason.

“The amount of people who just came in and said, I did all my kitchen dance parties on this album, and it helped me get up in the morning and work out, and whatever it was, this was just the way I think that had to be listened to.’

Speaking about the choice behind her latest title – Radical Optimism – the British-Albanian singer said: “I actually started thinking about album three, and I already had the title Radical Optimism, which for me was just about resilience, and if the things aren’t like that, Don’t go your way, you just keep pushing through.

‘(It) was actually very reminiscent of the moment I experienced and with Future Nostalgia, not really knowing what was going to happen there.

“And then it became possible for us to tour in 2022, so we crammed ninety-seven shows into one year,” Dua revealed.

During her lengthy chat, the Barbie actress opened up about what it was like to receive her final call to headline this year’s Glastonbury, joining Coldplay and SZA – which she said “manifested.”

“I got the call in November 2022. At the end of my Future Nostalgia tour. It was like coming back from Australia and I remember checking my email and it just said ‘Glastonbury’, and I thought, oh, this is interesting.

“I opened the email and just thought, oh my God! I can’t believe what I’m reading. I just had to brush it up a few times to see that I wasn’t into tripping, and I wasn’t into a jet lag delusion at that point.

“It was just the best email of all time,” she said.

“I don’t think I ever checked my email again after that? I never looked at my emails again because it all went downhill from there. It was just so surreal. But when I was writing my first album, I was into dream boards and manifestations and whatever, and I had written down that on my third record I’d like to headline Glastonbury.

“And also that I would like to collaborate with Tame Impala.”
