I'm a Dietitian and These Are the 10 Costco Groceries I'd Stock Up on If I Were Using a GLP-1

Costco sells groceries I would buy if I were taking weight-loss medication and still wanted to hit my nutrition goals. Lauren Manaker

Whether you take GLP-1s for weight loss or for other reasons, it is important to still achieve your nutritional goals.

GLP-1s are changing the way many people eat, and not just because they can curb appetite. If you eat less in general, what you eat suddenly becomes much more important.

As a registered dietitian, my focus is fairly consistent no matter who I work with: protect muscle mass with enough protein, support fullness and digestion with fiber and ensure micronutrients don’t fall through the cracks as portions shrink.

I also think it’s important that people actually enjoy what they eat, because that’s what makes this all sustainable.

That’s where Costco comes into the picture. It’s one of my favorite places to grab high-quality proteinsgut-friendly basic products and smart but fun snacks all in one place.

Everyone’s individual needs are different, and it’s worth checking with your medical team before making any changes to your diet.

However, if I were take a GLP-1this is what i would put in my cart.

Pears are one of the most fibrous fruits and can also serve as a vehicle for nut butter.

Pears can pair nicely with almond butter.

Lauren Manaker

A medium pear provides about 5.5 grams of fiber, which goes a long way in supporting digestion and keeping you satisfied between small meals.

In addition, the fruit is rich in antioxidants and super hydrating because it consists mainly of water.

These are a great snack on their own. However, if appetite is low, a pear makes an excellent base for something more filling.

I like to slice one up and add a little nut butter. It’s a simple snack that effortlessly combines fiber, protein and healthy fat.

Kevin’s Natural Foods chimichurri beef can be a decent source of iron and protein.

Kevin’s Natural Foods chimichurri beef is quite easy to reheat.

Lauren Manaker

When eat less on a GLP-1you run the risk of not getting enough of certain nutrients, including iron and protein. Both are important for things like immune function, energy metabolism and overall health.

Beef is a great nutritional source of both, which is a big part of why this ready-to-eat dish deserves a spot on my list.

Kevin’s Natural Foods chimichurri beef contains 21 grams of protein and 3 mg of iron per serving, with no added sugar and a short ingredient list.

Plus, it’s super flavorful and easy to prepare, as it’s fully cooked and heats up quickly. The chimichurri adds a bright, spicy flavor that keeps dinner from feeling boring, which is even more important when your appetite is down.

Serve it over rice with roasted vegetables or put it in a grain bowl for a more balanced meal.

Sipping bone broth can be a gentle way to get protein while helping with hydration.

I’ve seen Butcher’s bone broth at Costco.

Lauren Manaker

If appetite is low or a full meal feels like too much, it may be helpful to drink your nutrients.

Bone broth is a solid source of protein that can help support hydration, something that’s easy to overlook when you’re eating and drinking less, especially if you’re struggling with nausea. common GLP-1 side effect.

Along with 11 grams of protein per serving, this contains electrolytes such as sodium and potassium, which help support fluid balance.

Drink it warm on its own, or use it as a base for soups and grains to add protein and electrolytes to your meal with minimal effort.

Kimchi can support gut health and add flavor to just about anything.

Jongga kimchi contains sliced Chinese cabbage.

Lauren Manaker

Gastrointestinal changes are common with GLP-1s. Happy, fermented foods can help your body deal with disruptions to your gut microbiome and digestion.

Kimchi, like this one from Jongga, contains probiotics that can support digestion — and it adds a pop of flavor that makes smaller meals more interesting and satisfying.

If you like spices, you can easily incorporate this into many dishes. Stir it into rice, top a bowl with eggs or serve it alongside your egg whites. A small amount goes a long way.

Kirkland Signature Blackened Atlantic Salmon is a high-protein choice that is rich in omega-3 fatty acids.

Salmon goes well with roasted vegetables.

Lauren Manaker

Salmon is one of my favorite proteins, and these frozen fillets from Costco make it really easy to eat. One serving of Kirkland signature blackened Atlantic salmon has 29 grams of protein.

It is also rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which can support heart and brain health. Omega-3 fatty acids can also help fight inflammation, making it a nutrient worth prioritizing if you’re eating less in general.

The flavor is already ready, so all you have to do is heat and eat this salmon. Spread it on a salad, serve it with roasted vegetables, or combine it with rice for a quick, balanced dinner.

RxBars are a hearty, on-the-go protein snack with no added sugar.

RxBars are easy to throw in a purse or backpack.

Lauren Manaker

When you take GLP-1, appetite can be unpredictable. If you have a reliable, no-prep snack on hand, you’ll be less likely to skip protein when hunger strikes.

Individually packaged and simple, RxBars are easy to store in a bag or locker for busier days when a full meal just isn’t possible.

Each bar in this package contains 12 grams of protein, 5 to 6 grams of fiber and no added sugar. I also appreciate the short list of ingredients.

Pistachios provide complete plant-based proteins and support conscious snacking.

Delicious pistachios come in different flavors.

Lauren Manaker

The protein of a pistachio is considered particularly high-quality compared to many other snack nuts. Simply put, pistachios provide a more complete mix of amino acids than you might expect from a grab-and-go snack.

These beautiful pistachios provide 6 grams of protein per serving.

That protein has mattered ever since maintain muscle mass can be a real concern if you eat less on a GLP-1. Add 3 grams of fiber per serving and unsaturated fats, and you get a trio of nutrients that can help you stay full longer.

A serving consists of about 49 pistachios, which feels like a generous, satisfying handful rather than a small portion.

Choosing pistachios in the shell can offer even more benefits. Leftover shells can serve as a visual cue of how much you’ve eaten as you gently support them conscious snacking.

Olipop mini cans can be a smart choice when you want something sweet.

Each Olipop mini contains 25 calories.

Lauren Manaker

I like that these 7 ½ ounce Olipop mini cans are a fun, flavorful treat in a smaller portion.

These may feel more manageable with GLP-1 medications if you want something sweet, but a large soda or full dessert doesn’t sound as appealing.

These contain less sugar than traditional soft drinks and offer 3 grams of prebiotic fiber per can, making them slightly more nutritional than the average soft drink.

A Zespri SunGold kiwifruit brings vitamin C, fiber and hydration in a few easy bites.

When I feel like a sweet, fiber-rich snack, I grab a Zespri SunGold kiwi.

Lauren Manaker

SunGold kiwis can be useful for storing if you use a GLP-1.

Their golden flesh is sweeter and less tart than that of a green kiwi, and the smoother skin makes them easy to eat whole for extra fiber. (Yes, you can eat the peel!)

They are also particularly rich in vitamin C, even more than an orange, which can be useful if you are eating less in general.

Because they are sweet and hydrating and require virtually no preparation, they are a light, refreshing option for a snack or dessert.

Milton’s cauliflower crust pizza proves you don’t have to give up your favorite foods on a GLP-1.

Pizza with cauliflower crust goes well with a salad.

Lauren Manaker

This frozen pizza is a great example of a comfort food that still delivers on its nutritional value.

It has a gluten-free cauliflower crust, roasted vegetables, and real cheese. Each serving contains 12 grams of protein and 319 mg of calcium, which is 25% of the recommended daily intake.

I’ve found it to be one of those options that makes food feel comforting and familiar without being too heavy, thanks to its lighter, vegetarian base.

A few slices can be satisfying if the appetite is smaller. The pizza also goes well with a simple salad or some vegetables to complete the meal.
