A self-confessed atheist has told how dying for six minutes revealed what she believes is the shocking truth about humanity.
Anna Stone, a former Department of Defense research technician, was just 38 in 2016 when an undiagnosed ectopic pregnancy broke out, leaving her to bleed to death in a hospital.
Stone told the Daily Mail that the experience shattered her belief that consciousness ends when the body dies and convinced her that an afterlife exists.
On a deeper level, she came back with the hard lesson that every person on earth, regardless of religion, politics or culture, is connected in the same consciousness.
“I came back with the understanding that God, or the source, or whatever you want to call it, is like an ocean,” she told the Daily Mail.
She described each person as an individual droplet containing the divine, destined to rejoin the same ‘sea of consciousness’ after death without losing their individuality.
“We’re all going to the same place in the end,” Stone said, arguing that the divisions people use to separate themselves are ultimately “all fake.”
She also said the incident awakened a hidden psychic connection between her and another realm – which is now sending her terrifying messages from an invisible guardian.
Dr. Anna Stone was 38 in 2016 when she died for six minutes during a medical emergency
Stone had previously worked as a laboratory technician specializing in histology, preparing tissue samples in research labs that she said were tied to university and government contracts.
This included work associated with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the University of California, Los Angeles, and defense projects.
Before her near-death experience, Stone rejected the strict religious tenets of her upbringing and believed that no afterlife awaited her when she died.
‘I am energy, I am made of cells, cells decay and die. My energy will be transferred back to Earth in some way, shape or form, as energy does. But I’m not supposed to continue; it must be my body’s energy feeding plants or something. That made sense to me,” she explained.
That all changed when Stone began experiencing multiple episodes of heavy bleeding. She went to the hospital three times and the doctors treated the condition as an ulcer.
In reality, Stone was dealing with an ectopic pregnancy, in which the fetus grows in the fallopian tube. After it ruptured, Stone’s heart stopped as doctors rushed to give her a massive blood transfusion.
Stone described feeling extreme pain, as if every cell in her body was dying before she suddenly found herself standing next to her physical body in the hospital, watching as the doctors called her time of death and called her a “junkie.”
‘I didn’t really care that he had said it. I cared more, did I hear? Because that’s a problem,” Stone said, adding that she asked the doctor what he said when she came back to life.
“If I’m clinically dead and you call my time a death, then I shouldn’t have seen or heard any of this, right? And he says, ‘I’m sorry, I did that. You shouldn’t have heard that.”
Stone revealed that she could hear what doctors were saying as they called her time of death
Despite being clinically dead for only six minutes, time in this realm seemed inapplicable, and Stone found other versions of herself living in the same realm with her.
“I knew there was a two-year-old, six-year-old, twelve-year-old and sixteen-year-old version of me all around me. I existed all at the same time.”
She said the different versions of her past also shared this space with other people she recognized but never knew their names. They were strangers she had encountered throughout her life and were affected by the negative interactions Stone had with them.
“I saw from their perspective how selfish I was,” Stone admitted. ‘I didn’t take into account the other people I was with. I just went about my day and did my thing, and I didn’t think about other people.”
After this revelation, Stone saw a slightly different version of herself as she looked in 2016. She heard the presence say ‘no’ and understood that this meant that she would not remain in the afterlife.
She claimed that the return to her body was an extremely painful experience, as she saw her return to the earth through her navel and felt her entire body being squeezed by this small hole.
Stone said a brightly lit world appeared right next to the hospital room after she was pronounced clinically dead
The trauma of the near-death experience did not end for Stone after she learned from the doctor that she could hear his private comments. In fact, the experience had lasting effects that led to her undergoing a psychiatric evaluation.
Stone claimed that she returned from the afterlife and repeatedly heard voices warning her just before terrible events occurred, including a voice telling her to stop just before she almost hit a pedestrian with her car on a dimly lit street.
“I started hearing this voice. No voice outside of me. It was in there and it told me things like don’t drink that, or don’t go that way,” Stone said.
In another incident, Stone said she could hear a stranger standing next to her as she walked to her teaching job and asking what time it was.
She replied that it was 3:30 PM, causing the man to panic and claim that he never asked that question out loud.
After experiencing these incidents, doctors at the University of Southern California ruled out schizophrenia and similar conditions.
Although Stone was diagnosed with complex PTSD from her troubled childhood, which included her father’s arrest for murder when she was two, and her father’s eviction at age 12, there was no explanation for the cause of the episodes.
Stone didn’t see angels or other people, but said she could feel the presence of others, including different versions of herself at a younger age
She told the Daily Mail that she now believes her soul somehow made the whole near-death experience happen to get her life back on track.
Stone, who would go on to pursue a doctorate in spiritual psychology after the incident, said she battled an addiction to opioids before undergoing a medical detox in 2011.
She also admitted to drinking heavily before her near-death experience, but hasn’t drank since due to a miraculous incident shortly after she came home from the hospital.
‘I tried to drink alcohol, but it foamed in my mouth. Instead of drinking it, it turned from liquid to foam and was warm,” she said.
‘I had to spit it out and I tried a different kind of alcohol, same thing. That was the end of it. So I stopped.’
“I knew I was going to come back,” Stone said of her near-death experience. “This was just, I call it my karmic blow. It was like, Anna, get your stuff together, what are you doing?’
Stone also claimed that she began hearing paranormal voices warning her of impending danger
As for her own experience, Stone said it completely changed her as a person from the moment she left the hospital.
Soon after, Stone received an offer to teach at a secondary school, where she worked with students whose lives were also marked by trauma, dislocation, and the same kinds of struggles she knew firsthand.
Since 2016, she has been teaching, writing and studying how trauma, consciousness and unusual sensitivity are connected, to help other people understand pain and change.
“I hope this means that we are not finite, that we are part of this collective organism of the universe that, I believe, is conscious,” Stone said of her near-death experience.
‘I have no idea where it’s going, but I think it’s much more. I hope this whole existence here is more than just bills, taxes, disappointments and rat races. I really hope that something comes next that makes this all worthwhile.”
