Tom Brady isn’t used to losing a lot during his two-decade career, but when he does strange things, like forgetting his family, they can happen.
His Tampa Bay Buccaneers were shut out by the San Francisco 49ers, Brady’s boyhood team, despite third quarterback Brock Purdy making his first start for the home team.
As such, he was in awe that his family would stay at Levi’s Stadium to see him. Brady is widely known as someone who hates losing more than most, and after the beating it seems like he just consumed it, at least initially.
Tom Brady struggled to overcome a fierce 49ers defense as Tampa scored just one TD
“We got our asses kicked, and I was walking from the locker room to the bus, kind of a long walk of 500 yards or so.
And just as I got to the bus, the woman I was with was like, “Hey, didn’t you want to see your family?” Brady said on his weekly podcast, Let’s Go!
‘They remained?’ Brady responded.
Brady’s parents Galynn (L) and Tom Sr. (R) attended but left during the third quarter
“So I turned around and walked back,” Brady continued. ‘And at least after the game I got to see my sisters, nieces and some cousins. My parents left in the third term, fortunately, to return home.
Even as his family stayed behind for the Niners’ onslaught, Brady understood if Tampa Bay fans found better uses for their Sunday afternoon.
“I’m sure they left, that’s what they did,” he commented after the game. ‘I don’t want them out there in this shit. It was horrible. we stink
Brady’s homecoming was ruined by the San Francisco 49ers who are at the top of the NFC
Brady battled against a fierce 49ers defense, completing 34 of 55 passes for 253 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.
Tampa Bay only managed to put seven points on the board, and was out until the third quarter.
Brady displayed immense sportsmanship after the 35-7 loss.
The seven-time Super Bowl champion opted not to take a shower after the game amid his frustration.
He greeted a slew of San Francisco players near midfield and even signed a football at the request of the 49ers’ Dre Greenlaw after he shut out the seven-time Super Bowl champion during the game.
Despite the torrid performance, the Buccaneers sit atop the NFC South with a 6-7 record, one game ahead of both the Carolina Panthers and Atlanta Falcons.
It won’t get any easier for Tampa when Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals come to town Sunday on a five-game winning streak.
Brady was kind in the loss, and despite the loss, Tampa Bay still sits atop the NFC South.
