A three-month-old girl has died while camping with her family in a forest area, police said.
The baby suffered cardiac arrest in land at Strawberry Lane, near the village of Great Wyrley in Staffordshire, at around 8.45am yesterday and was pronounced dead by paramedics a short time later.
Police are in the early stages of an investigation into the ‘unexplained’ death but say it is an ‘isolated incident’.
Detective Inspector Katie Gregory said: “Although the investigation is still at an early stage, this is an isolated incident and we understand the child’s family were camping in the area.
“The death is being treated as unexplained at this time.”
Officers cordoned off a fishing lake in the Wyrley and Essington Branch Canal Local Nature Reserve yesterday and remained there today.

A witness said she sent paramedics to the area around the fishing lake.
Drone footage of the scene shows at least four tents and camping chairs placed next to each other, close to fishing platforms.

‘It is important that we give the emergency services the space they need to carry out their work with dignity and care.
‘Once full and confirmed details have been formally shared with me, I will provide residents with a further update.
‘Until then, avoid speculation and give the family and first responders the privacy and respect they deserve.’
