There were chaotic scenes on Monday’s edition of This Morning after an interview with a family of ‘vikings’ went awry – prompting infuriated viewers to switch off.

Stand-in hosts Rochelle Humes and Andi Peters lost control during what should have been a lighthearted chat with Viking re-enactor and Anglo-Saxon indentured wet nurse Jenny Kell and her two young sons.

Dressed in full costume, Kell was on hand to field questions about her participation in staged viking battle reenactments – but the interview quickly derailed courtesy of her unruly children.

Repeatedly interrupted by a chorus of whoops, screeches and high pitched wailing, the hapless hosts were left struggling to hold the interview together despite their best efforts, prompting Rochelle to finally admit defeat.

‘I think the wheels have officially come off,’ she admitted as eldest son Tom screamed over her.

The fiasco sparked inevitable consternation among viewers, with some admitting they were forced to switch off due to the disruptive nature of Kell’s children.

Taking to Twitter, one wrote: ‘Oh my god these children are a prime example of why I don’t like kids.’

While a second added: ‘Turned over can’t watch them just to annoying.’ [sic]

Evidently in agreement, a third wrote: ‘My idea of HELL is being trapped in a room with these kids.’

Another joked: ‘Guess who’s getting thrown into the Wolf Pit when they get home.’

However, one viewer applauded the children’s behaviour by claiming it was entirely in keeping with the viking lifestyle.

‘Let’s face it have you ever seen a quiet Viking…pillaging robbing shouting was their thing so the kids on track…’ they wrote.

Another admitted he was entertained by their antics, adding: ‘Don’t know what was funnier, the kids that were constantly screaming; or @andipeters trying to hold it together but then giggling every five seconds. Amazing stuff for a Monday!’

This Morning returns on Tuesday at 10:00am on ITV1.
