Montana’s state flower, the bitterroot, blooms for only a short time and brings a splash of color to the state each spring.
Lisbeth Fernández wanted to capture the fleeting beauty with her costume, designed by Kirsten Regalado. Strips of fabric flowed down the arms of her sparkling orange dress and she carried a staff with a picture of a flower on it. Her large back part looked like a blossoming bitterroot, with feathers of pink, purple and orange forming the shape of the flower.
