The co-stars of Dolly Parton’s Steel Magnolias are remembering her in the aftermath of her death at the age of 80.
Shortly after her death was announced Tuesday by her cousin Bryan Seaver, Julia Roberts, 58, said in a statement to People‘Dolly was a magical and cheerful person. I consider knowing her a treasure in my life. The sun is darkened today.’
Sally Field, 79, shared a photo of the cast from the late ’80s movie set on Instagram, captioning it, “If there really are angels on earth, then we just lost one.” Dolly Parton. There will never be another. I adored her with all my heart and will always cherish our time together. Forever. Rest in peace, beautiful Dolly.’
Field and Roberts starred in the Herbert Ross-directed film as mother-daughter pair M’Lynn and Shelby Eatenton, and Parton played hairstylist Truvy Jones.
Shirley MacLaine, Daryl Hannah, Olympia Dukakis, Tom Skerritt and Sam Shepard completed the ensemble.
MacLaine, 92, wrote, “God sent her to us, and she has returned home.”

Steel Magnolias follows a group of women in the South who lean on each other through life’s trials and tribulations.
Parton’s death was confirmed Tuesday in an Instagram video posted by Seaver, who was also her head of security.
She died after being admitted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville on Friday with autoimmune and kidney problems. TMZ.
Four days before her death, the singer said People she had “so many things I want to accomplish,” including launching a new hotel and museum in Nashville, Tennessee.
“This video announcement is something that Dolly asked of me years ago before I fully absorbed it as a future reality,” Seaver said in the clip.
He praised his aunt for “living in the light” and said she was now “in the arms of Jesus” and in the company of her late husband Carl Dean, as well as her parents and “countless others who have watched her and longed to meet her in heaven.”
Parton enjoyed an illustrious music career that spanned six decades and was best known for her hits Jolene and 9 to 5.
Her death comes after months of health problems that forced her to withdraw from a series of public appearances.

Speak with Vanity fair in 2020, the Jolene hitmaker said she felt the role of Truvy was a good fit for her.
“I understood because I used to do my mother’s hair…I’m good with my hands. So I would do good hair. So I felt like Truvy,” she said.
“I felt like I fit right into that spot, and I really enjoyed the role I played. And that was a great success.’
Parton also gushed about her castmates, telling the outlet, “I loved working with all those women. Someone said, “How could you deal with all those women?”
“I said, ‘I just prayed we didn’t all have PMS at the same time.'”
