Bombshell claims emerge that Sonia Kruger’s future at Channel Seven is in doubt as Big Brother moves to Network 10

Industry insiders have claimed that popular Channel Seven star Sonia Kruger’s future at the network could be uncertain.

Despite the 59-year-old telly favorite once being one of Seven’s most in-demand stars, rumors are circulating that this may no longer be the case following changes at the network.

One change is that her former hosting gig on Big Brother is gone, with the reality show moving to Network Ten in 2025 with a rebooted format and a new host in Mel Trancia.

In another big change for Sonia, who also presents The Voice and Dancing With The Stars on Seven, her husband Craig McPherson left his role as head of news and current affairs at SevenWest Media in April.

A spokesperson for Seven dismissed the case Daily Telegraphclaims that these developments had caused the star to fall out of favor with the network.

‘You make things up. This is total fiction and completely wrong. Publishing this rumor would be deliberately misleading,” the spokesperson said.

Despite this, the publication claimed that a ‘highly placed source’ at Seven said Sonia was ‘vulnerable’, citing her reported $1.3 million contract.

“Now that Big Brother is gone, she will probably do less,” the unnamed source told the outlet.

Claims have emerged that despite Sonia once being one of Seven’s most in-demand stars, rumors are swirling that this may no longer be the case following changes at the network.

And reps for the Gold Logie winner poured more water on the rumor fire, telling the publication that Sonia was “happy” at the network.

‘Sonia has a long-term contract with Seven, has not taken a pay cut and is very happy at the network.’

The claims come after unconfirmed reports surfaced earlier this month that Sonia had re-signed with the network.

A TV insider has revealed that Seven will announce its new gig at network Upfronts for 2025 in the coming months.

Speaking to Yahoo Lifestyle, a source teased that the new role will involve reporting and “location work.”

“Sonia is at her best when she can ad-lib,” they said and continued:

“Giving her a microphone and getting real people to open up is a real skill that she can do effortlessly, so I think it’s a shame not to get her out there again in that kind of capacity. I think Sonia wants more, and rightly so.’

Meanwhile, a second insider told the publication that Sonia’s new job at Seven would be “meatier” than her current hosting roles on The Voice and Dancing with the Stars.

Sonia joined Seven in 2020 on a three-year contract and the source has indicated that her new role will give the much-loved star the chance to show off her journalistic skills.

They even suggested they could use Sonia to revive a current affairs format like Today Tonight, a one-off rival to Nine’s A Current Affair, which ran on Seven between 1995 and 2019.

Daily Mail Australia has approached Channel Seven for comment.
