Multiple people have been injured after a car crashed into a parked vehicle, forcing it onto a footpath and careening into a group of pedestrians.

Emergency services responded to reports of a vehicle crashing into pedestrians along Burwood Road in Burwood in Sydney’s west at around 12.25pm ​​on Sunday.

During the incident, a total of seven people were injured, five pedestrians and two passengers of a Toyota Camry.

They were taken to Royal North Shore Hospital, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and St George Hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The 19-year-old driver of a Ford Ranger who drove onto the footpath was arrested at the scene before being taken to Burwood Police Station where he is assisting police enquiries.

The incident happened along Burwood Road in Sydney’s Burwood (pictured) at around 12.25am on Sunday, leading to the arrest of a 19-year-old driver.

The Ford Ranger is believed to have struck the Toyota Camry – which was being used as a shared vehicle – as it accepted a toll before crashing into five pedestrians before coming to a stop after colliding with a stationary vehicle.

NSW Ambulance Inspector Dominic Wong described the scene as ‘chaotic’.

“We treated a total of seven patients, with injuries ranging from head injuries (and) chest injuries,” he said, according to 7 News.

“Some patients were in serious condition and others were walking, minors.”

NSW Police confirmed in a statement that officers from Burwood Area Command have established a crime scene.

The specialized police of the Collision Investigation Unit also conducted an examination of the scene.

“While investigations continue, traffic diversions are in place and motorists are asked to avoid the area,” a statement from NSW Police said.
