After accepting the statuette, Pang compared the experience to the 1973 Oscars, when Marlon Brando won and sent Sacheen Littlefeather to collect his award.

Sam later told the That’s enough podcast that he actually didn’t want to go on stage to accept an award in front of another comedian, only agreeing because he was convinced that Flanagan wouldn’t win.

“I did something… that bothers me. I had to receive an award on behalf of someone,” he said.

Sam later told the That’s Enough Al podcast that he actually didn’t want to go on stage to accept an award for another comedian, only agreeing because he was convinced Flanagan wouldn’t win.

‘[Flanagan] was nominated for most popular actress and she didn’t think she was winning. In the category there are heavy hitters like Deborah Mailman, with powerful performances – then old comedy Flanagan wins!’

Pang continued, “To collect something on someone else’s behalf? I think, “F**k, what a waste of my time.”‘

It comes after Seven confirmed that this year’s Logies will be held in Sydney for the first time since 1986.

The award ceremony has been held on the Gold Coast since 2018 with the support of the Queensland government, but that deal ended in 2022.

The ceremony will be broadcast on July 30 by the Seven Network.
