Rob Reiner won an Emmy posthumously on Sunday for his role in The Bear, less than a year after his gruesome murder.
The late star – who died aged 78 – was honored with the Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series award for his role as Albert Schnurr on the Jeremy Allen White-led hit TV show during night two of the Creative Arts Emmys.
He beat Michael J. Fox and Brett Goldstein (Shrinking), Hamish Linklater (Widow’s Bay), Christopher McDonald (Hacks) and Connor Storrie (Saturday Night Live).
It is the first posthumous Emmy for an on-camera performance since Raul Julia won the award in 1995 for The Burning Season.
Presenter Wendi McLendon-Covey accepted the Emmy on Reiner’s behalf, amid a minutes-long standing ovation from the emotional audience.
The victory comes nine months after the beloved director and actor was tragically murdered along with his wife Michele Singer Reiner, 70, in December. Their son Nick Reiner, 32, was subsequently arrested and charged with the double murder, to which he entered a not guilty plea.

The win shattered an Emmy record previously held by his father Carl.
Reiner had not won an acting Emmy since his 1978 win for All in the Family. His 48-year span between wins breaks his father’s 37-year record for longest span between acting Emmy wins.
Carl set that original milestone between his 1958 win for Caesar’s Hour and his 1995 win for Mad About You. Both father and son reached the milestone in the exact same guest comedy category.
Reiner appeared as restaurateur Albert in season four of the culinary show, which has received a total of eight nominations for the 2026 awards show.
The director and his wife were fatally stabbed in their $13.5 million home in Brentwood, California on December 14, 2025. Nick was arrested and charged in connection with their deaths and remains in custody.
The Reiners were also parents to son Jake, 35, and daughter Romy, 28.
Nick, who has a long history of mental health and substance abuse issues, had previously gotten into a loud argument with his father at a holiday party hosted by Conan O’Brien, hours before his parents’ bodies were found by his younger sister Romy.
Last month, an emotional Jake opened up about the death of his parents.
“It feels like eight years at once, and it also feels like eight minutes,” Jake said ABC7 in his first TV interview since their deaths. “Because every moment I wake up, I’m reminded of my reality, and you experience that every day.”

Jake said he was in downtown Los Angeles on December 14 when his younger sister called him twice in quick succession.
“Romy told me our dad was dead, and then she said, ‘I can’t find mom,’” Jake told the paper in his first sit-down interview since his parents were killed.
He paused for about seven seconds and seemed to struggle for words when asked about his brother Nick.
“I mean, he’s in jail,” Jake said. “So… You know, it’s… It’s like I physically lost my parents, and then Nick got arrested, and it’s like now it’s just Romy and I.”
Jake added that his parents “never stopped helping” Nick, as he acknowledged he would “never understand” their horrific death.
The Reiner family said in a statement last December: “It is with great sadness that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner. We are heartbroken by this sudden loss and ask for privacy during this incredibly difficult time.”
The filmmaker’s adopted daughter, Tracy Reiner, 62, told NBC News at the time: “I come from the best family ever. I don’t know what to say. I’m in shock.’
She added that she last saw her father at a family gathering the day before his murder.
Law enforcement sources said Rob and Michele’s bodies were discovered with what appeared to be knife wounds after the LAPD responded to the home on December 14, 2025 just after 3:30 p.m.
According to the Los Angeles Times, a press conference at the time revealed that “a family member” was being questioned by authorities.
In July, Reiner made a posthumous cameo on Larry David’s new show Life, Larry, And The Pursuit Of Unhappiness, marking his final on-screen appearance before his tragic death.
The late director played George Washington in episode two of the satirical HBO Max series, filmed a month before his death.

Reiner’s role was kept under wraps until the episode aired Friday.
The son of comedian Carl and his actress wife Estelle, Rob started his career in Hollywood as an actor.
He first played Mike “Meathead” Stivic on the hit sitcom All in the Family between 1971 and 1979, and the role earned him two Primetime Emmy Awards.
His other acting credits include parts in the 1993 rom-com Sleepless in Seattle, The First Wives Club in 1996, the 1998 thriller Primary Colors and the 2013 film The Wolf of Wall Street.
However, he is best remembered for his directorial work that began in the early 1980s, when he helmed the 1984 music mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap.
He went on to direct 1986’s Stand by Me, as well as the 1987 fantasy adventure The Princess Bride and the 1989 rom-com When Harry Met Sally.
His last film returned to his roots when he brought Spinal Tap back to the big screen in September 2025 for a second outing, Spinal Tap II: The End Continues.
