Borussia Dortmund full-back Marius Wolf responded to a viral video of a spectator stealing a shirt from a fellow fan in a wheelchair at Signal Iduna Park on Tuesday.

The incident came after Dortmund staged a sensational comeback to overturn a 2-1 deficit to beat Atletico Madrid 5-4 on aggregate to advance to the semi-finals of the Champions League.

After the match, Julian Brandt, who had scored the Bundesliga opener, was seen handing out his shirt to a member of the crowd who was in a wheelchair.

Seconds later, the kit was snatched from the fan’s clutches by another member of the crowd, who appeared to wave the shirt at the fan before walking away, grinning.

Although Brandt seemed unaware that the incident had occurred, the man who had taken the shirt was followed by another member of the crowd, apparently an employee of the spectator in the wheelchair.

The video, which has sparked outrage among many fans online, has now caught the attention of Wolf, who took to X (formerly Twitter) to reassure fans that the situation would be resolved.

The Dortmund defender wrote in response to the video: ‘Wird klart’ with a ‘smiling face’ emoji, which translates from German to ‘It will be clarified.’

Despite this, many fans on social media condemned the actions of the fan who stole the football shirt, with some claiming they should be banned for life.

‘When you are the largest among 81,000 people. Take Brandt’s gift from a wheelchair user. Lifelong stadium ban, please.’

Brandt put the hosts ahead, firing the ball past the inside post with a clinical finish in the 34th minute. Chelsea loanee Ian Maatsen would double the lead less than five minutes later with his first-ever Champions League goal.

Atletico hit back thanks to a Matts Hummels own goal, before Angel Correa took advantage of a lucky rebound to put the visitors 3-2 ahead.

Despite this, Niclas Fullkrug and Marcel Sabitzer hit back in the 71st and 72nd minutes to secure a 4–2 victory for the home side and a 5–4 victory on aggregate, securing their place in the semi-finals of the tournament.

Maatsen delivered a sharp message to Mauricio Pochettino and his parent club Chelsea after scoring his Champions League debut.
