A woman has been found dead in a pond at a popular park in Lancashire.
Police were called to Lowther Gardens in Lytham at around 9am on Monday after reports of a body in the water.
Officers initially said the woman’s death was being treated as ‘unexplained’. In an update, police said the death was not being treated as suspicious and a report would be prepared for the coroner.
“Our thoughts are with her loved ones at this difficult time,” police said. The woman’s identity has yet to be determined.
The park entrances were blocked by police vehicles and the gardens were closed as an investigation was launched. Police, ambulance crews and fire brigade were all called to the scene.
A walking group due to enter the park at 10.30am was said to be ‘shocked’ by the gruesome discovery.

Up to ten staff at the Lowther Pavilion theater were asked to remain indoors while police looked around the area.
The theater reopened at 11 a.m. for an afternoon recital of classical music and an evening concert by Rick Wakeman, the keyboardist of the progressive rock band Yes.
The park, with a playground, padel courts and a bowling alley, is popular with young families, dog walkers and retirees.
Lancashire Police confirmed the incident was being treated as non-suspicious. A spokesperson said: ‘At 9am on Monday 7 September we were called to reports of a body found in a pond at Lowther Gardens, Lowther Terrace, Lytham. Emergency services arrived on the scene and discovered the body of a woman with great sadness.
‘Our thoughts are with her loved ones at this difficult time. Her death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be passed to the coroner in due course.”
