NIAGARA FALLS, NY — NIAGARA WATERFALLS, N.Y. (AP) —
A locomotive derailed and crashed into a garage in Niagara Falls on Monday, CSX said. No one was injured.
The impact caused significant diesel fuel spills, but this was contained and had no impact on waterways, the rail company said in an emailed statement.
Photos from the scene show the blue motorcycle against a badly damaged red brick structure and a chain-link fence.
“The whole house shook,” said Lori Morreale Harris, who lives in the home, The Buffalo News. She said the same garage was hit by a train in the late 1970s when her grandparents lived in the house. The garage is across an alley where the tracks end.
CSX reported that state and local authorities, along with the Environmental Protection Agency, have been notified.
“Our primary focus now is on the health and safety of on-site personnel, the surrounding community and mitigating risks to the environment,” CSX’s statement said.
An investigation is underway into the cause of the incident.
