Nickelodeon star Christy Knowings’ cause of death has been confirmed less than a month after her shock death.
The 46-year-old actress suffered an asthma attack on August 7, which left her with brain damage.
Knowings was placed on life support at a Los Angeles hospital, according to TMZ, with the family later deciding to take her off it. The star died the following Tuesday evening.
In a death certificate obtained by People on September 2, it was revealed that Knowings died of cardiac arrest.
Asthma was listed as an underlying condition, while acute hypoxic respiratory failure and status asthmaticus were the conditions leading to her death, the document said.
Knowings famously appeared on Nickelodeon’s All That for three seasons, from 1997 to 2000.

She played several memorable characters, including Penny Lane and Jessica in the returning Whatrr!!! sketch with former child star Amanda Bynes.
Knowings also appeared in three episodes of Sesame Street alongside her twin brother, Chris Knowings.
Her rep told The Daily Mail in a statement: ‘Christy was a multi-talented lady. Whether it was singing, acting or dancing, she was always creating. Always professional and dedicated to her work.’
In the wake of her death, her former co-star Kenan Thompson, 48, paid an emotional tribute on Instagram, writing: ‘Man this one hit hard!!! Rest well Christie!!! Never could have imagined this day!!
“Sending so much love to her family!! She was genuine and one of the funniest people here!!! I’m going to miss you buddy!!! Show @christyknowings some love everyone!!!
In a 2019 interview with Bustle, Knowings reflected on her time on the show as a teenager, saying, “My favorite moment on set was when I started playing this character in season 6 called Gloria Bankhead. She was an over-the-top Martha Stewart.
“I had never played a character like her before! I remember being on set and washing her all day. Everyone loved it!
“The writers, the stage managers, everyone said, ‘Hi Gloria!’ Gloria Bankhead was my favorite character to play.

Knowings’ death came seven months after the death of her All That co-star Kianna Underwood, 33, in a collision in Brooklyn in January.
The former child star got her big break on the infamous Nickelodeon sketch comedy series.
According to her IMDb page, she appeared in All That in seven episodes in 2004 and 2005.
The show produced several stars, including Kenan Thompson and Bynes, a longtime cast member of Saturday Night Live.
Underwood replaced Jamie Lynn Spears on the sketch comedy series for its tenth and final season.
She also appeared in the film The 24 Hour Woman, starring Patti LuPone, and voiced a character in the animated film Santa Baby!.
The young actress also dabbled in stage production and toured with the musical Hairspray.
Underwood did not continue to act as an adult and appeared to be living in New York City at the time of her death.
