Megyn Kelly rips Trump’s ‘disgraceful’ hush money trial and says breaking 250-year precedent to wield legal system against an ex-president ‘humiliates America like she is a WHORE’

Megyn Kelly has condemned Donald Trump’s ongoing hush money trial, describing it as “shameful” and an embarrassment to the United States.

It is the first time that a former American president has faced a criminal trial. Kelly said this violates 250 years of precedent and is an example of using the legal system against an ex-president in what was a “humiliation” of the country “as if she were a whore.”

The indictment concerns $130,000 in payments Trump’s company made to his then-lawyer Michael Cohen.

He paid that amount on behalf of Trump to prevent porn actor Stormy Daniels from making public her claims about a sexual encounter with Trump ten years earlier. Trump has denied the meeting ever took place.

Prosecutors say the payments to Cohen were incorrectly recorded as legal fees.

Prosecutors have described the money as part of a scheme to bury damaging stories that Trump feared could help his opponent in the 2016 race, especially as Trump’s reputation at the time suffered from comments he made about women.

Kelly said on her show: ‘For me this is a sad and disgusting day… I woke up today feeling restless and down about this case.

“It’s not that I love Trump, as you know, I’m not a Trump lover. I’m not a sycophant. I’m not a Trump derangement person either. I feel sad for our country.

“I’m sad for Trump that he has to go through this. What is he accused of? Pay – yes, she’s a porn star, but let’s be honest about it – a lover who keeps quiet about an affair. And then that writing in the books: “I paid a lover to keep quiet about my affair.” They turned that moment into 34 crimes.

‘In doing so, they broke almost 250 years of precedent and indicted a former president. It is a shame. It is a humiliation for us, the United States. Forget Trump.

“Alvin Bragg, he humbled himself and he brought us down with him,” Kelly said in an outraged summary of the Trump trial.

‘It’s like they took someone like Princess Diana and turned her into a street whore. That is America, and what he has reduced us to today. But this mockery of our justice system in all the “Get Trump” efforts is the most offensive.”

Kelly explained that Trump had not properly documented the hush-hush payment in his books, which would normally be a misdemeanor charge, but the alleged cover-up elevated the charge from a misdemeanor to a misdemeanor under New York law.

‘I’m disgusted. I’m discouraged. I have very little hope of fairness to Trump in this trial, either by this judge who clearly can’t stand him and shouldn’t hear the case at all, or by the jury who, if you play the odds, absolutely hates will have on the case. Donald Trump, as do 87 percent of New Yorkers,” Kelly continued.

“He was loved when he was just a businessman, full of color and swag. Well, things change when you get political. We all know that. It’s a dark day for America. Alvin Bragg should be ashamed of himself,” Kelly suggested.

“And I understand what Trump is saying: ‘I’m proud to be here.’ He has to turn it. You know, he’s taking this legal bullet and testing the system because he has to and also because, I’m sure, he’s appalled by what’s being done… This could be the thing that changes November. And if you think I’m joking, just look at the polls.”

The first seven jurors for Donald Trump’s hush money trial convened Tuesday after lawyers questioned the jury about their social media posts, political views and personal lives to decide who should sit in a fair judgment of the former president.

Eleven more people need to be sworn in before opening statements begin Monday.

It is a moment of reckoning for Trump, who has tried to delay his prosecution until after the November election and portrays himself as a victim of a politically motivated justice system.

The lawsuit puts Trump’s legal troubles at the center of his closely contested race against President Joe Biden.

It is the first of Trump’s four criminal cases to go to trial, and it could be the only one to reach a verdict before voters decide whether to choose the Republican Party’s presumptive presidential nominee.

The methodical trial unfolding in a Manhattan courtroom highlights the challenge of finding people who can fairly judge the polarizing defendant in the city where he built his real estate empire before being elected president in 2016.

Still, jury selection went faster than expected on Tuesday afternoon. It was expected to resume on Thursday.

As he left the courthouse, Trump stopped in the hallway to protest the case to reporters, accusing Judge Juan Merchan of “rushing” the trial.

He has denied any wrongdoing.
