The beloved teen comedy Mean Girls turned 20 years old in April, but many fans still recognize October 3 as “Mean Girls Day.”
October 3 was the date Aaron Samuels (Jonathan Bennett) asked Cady Heron (Lindsay Lohan) what day it was, and it’s been celebrated by fans ever since, with a new musical reboot debuting this summer.
Actor Rajiv Surendra played Kevin Gnapoor in the film, who stole the show with his iconic talent show rap, to impress his love Janis Ian (Lizzy Caplan).
While they shared a dance at the end of the film, hinting at a budding relationship, Surendra – who came out as gay in 2016 – doesn’t think they would still be together.
He even believes that Kevin was secretly gay in the movie… and that he actually wanted Aaron Samuels, as he revealed to People.

“I think Kevin secretly wanted Aaron Samuels, but he wasn’t allowed to say it,” Surendra said of his character.
“And today he was supposed to reveal his feelings to Aaron Samuels, and then Aaron Samuels was also secretly gay,” he added.
Bennett also came out as gay in 2017, revealing that he came out privately on the Mean Girls set with co-star Daniel Franzese, who himself came out publicly in 2014.
Surendra added that he still keeps in touch with Bennett and Franzese, and that they get together when they are in New York City, where he is based, and that they all joke that their characters in the film were actually gay.
“They’re reaching out. It comes up every time we’re together. For example, we only joke about it. We say, “Oh, we’re all gay,” says Surendra.
He added that he’s also seen Lindsay Lohan, adding that when he gets together with other Mean Girls stars, “it feels like a family.”
‘I think it feels like a family because the film has never been forgotten. “It’s like it’s just gotten bigger and bigger over the years and the audience response has always been positive and warm all these years,” he says.
“Everywhere, just like the last 20 years, people are quoting the most obscure things,” he says of fan reactions.

The new ad campaign features a new version of the rap with replica jewelry of what he wore in the film.
“When we shot the rap, the props guy had a whole box full of fake jewelry that they bought for me to try on,” he said.
‘And at the end of the scene I was like, “Can I keep this?” And since he had duplicates in the original packaging, he said, “Yes, take it,” he added.
