The Persuasion actress’ attendance at the event came days after she made shocking jokes about actor Armie Hammer’s scandal while speaking at a dinner to kick off the Sundance Film Festival.

While presenting the Luca Guadagnino Institute Sundance International Icon Award, Dakota made a comment about Armie, who was in Call Me by Your Name in 2017, a film directed by Luca.

She started off by joking that Luca had tried to cast her as the peach in the critically acclaimed movie, prompting laughter from the crowd.

In the film, the character played by Timothee Chalamet performed a sexual act on a peach, after which Hammer’s character ate it.

“It was here at Sundance in 2017 that audiences experienced a film uniquely characterized by Luca’s iconic approach to storytelling. The vision and style of it is Call Me By Your Name. Unfortunately, I wasn’t in that one. It was unfortunate.

She continued: “Luca had asked me to play the part of the peach, but our schedules conflicted, thank goodness because then it would have been another woman Armie Hammer tried to eat!”

The daughter of Melanie Griffith, 65, and Don Johnson, 73, then alluded to Guadagnino’s 2022 film Bones and All, in which cannibalism was part of the story.

“It’s been five years since that movie opened here, and Luca hasn’t stopped taking us to exciting places. Who knew cannibalism was so popular?” she said.
