Man City vs Wolves – Premier League: Live score, team news and updates as Pep Guardiola’s side looks to close the gap back to one point on title chasing Arsenal
The visitors will be without their boss Gary O’Neil on the sidelines today as he serves a one-match suspension.
The reason for this you ask? This is due to his reaction when his team had a goal disallowed against West Ham last month.
This could be a big blow for Wolves.
Wolves Team News – ONE change
Only one change for Wolves.
Hugo Bueno comes into the wing and replaces Matt Doherty at the back, while Jean-Ricner Bellegarde and Santiago Bueno both come on the bench.
Can this team cause City problems?
Manchester City Team News – Foden RETURNS
That is now a very strong team.
Phil Foden and Erling Haaland both return to the starting line-up, while Pep Guardiola makes three changes.
Mateo Kovacic is also in action, while Ederson is somehow fit to start.
Last week the Brazilian left Nottingham in a huff, what a miraculous recovery…
Wolves arrive at the Etihad
Wolves have arrived at the Eithad to take on the champions, and they look focused.
One thing I will say though: Mario Lemina’s style of that hat is very interesting. Is that trendy these days?
It doesn’t really matter though, he just dreams of scoring a 30-yard screamer to silence the crowd later.
Will he still start? We’ll know soon…
City wants to extend undefeated streak
I think it’s gone under the radar, but Manchester City are on a crazy unbeaten run at the moment.
In the Premier League they are on a 19-match unbeaten run. If they win today, it would be the fourth time they have gone 20 league games unbeaten under Pep Guardiola.
They just become a machine when they get going, it’s hard to see anyone stopping them at this point.
Jamie Carragher: ‘No nerves at City’
Jamie Carragher, former Liverpool defender, on Sky Sports:
You won’t get nervous at (Manchester) City, the results teach you that, not only this season, but also in previous seasons.
If you go back to the home game, they (Wolves) played like the away team. I don’t see it any other way, getting numbers behind the ball. It’s not rocket science, it’s just very difficult to do.
Wolves are looking for PL double
Not many teams have had this opportunity.
In September, Wolves beat Manchester City 2-1 at Molineux, so today they are competing for the double.
This may surprise you, but Pep Guardiola’s City have already been beaten by Wolves twice in a season, in 2019/20.
If Wolves win today, they will become the first team to record more than one league double against a Pep Guardiola side.
Can they defy the odds and do it?
How it looks at the top
Yes, I know, the title race is no longer three-way.
I just thought I’d add Liverpool to the mix because technically they can still win the title, but they won’t.
This is the task for Manchester City. If you win and keep the initiative but lose, Arsenal are in control.
The stakes are enormous today, there is no room for mistakes.
A tough test for City
No matter who you play at this time of the season, it will never be easy.
Manchester City know they have been here before, they rarely blink under pressure.
Having seen Arsenal do the job, they will know they have to do the same against a Wolves side sitting comfortably in mid-table.
That doesn’t mean anything though, the West Midlands side are one of only three Premier League sides to have beaten City in the competition this season.
On their day, they can cause problems for anyone. City will have to deal with it from the start.
It’s going to be a belt match.
It’s Manchester City’s turn…
How are you going to respond, Manchester City?
This season’s title race will be gripping until the very last minute, it still feels like there is a new twist somewhere.
Arsenal previously did it by taking four points clear with a 3-0 win over Bournemouth, and now City have the chance to get back within a point of the leaders with the first of their two games in hand.
Wolves are the unlucky team to face Pep Guardiola’s side in a clash. It’s never fun playing against City this time of the season.
It may be a tough proposition, but Wolves are a team who have appeared at the Etihad before. I’m sure Arsenal fans would love it if they did that again.
It’s going to be intense at the Etihad, so brace yourself. Anyway, I’m ready, are you?
