“Off with His Head!”: Extraordinary Change Announced For Australia’s $5 Note, Royal Family No Longer Appearance; this is what will replace them

The Reserve Bank has decided to update the $5 note to feature a new design that honors the culture and history of early Australians.

This new design will replace the portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The other side of the $5 note will continue to show the Australian Parliament.

This decision by the Reserve Bank Board follows consultation with the Australian Government, which supports this change.

The Bank will consult with First Australians on the design of the $5 note. The new banknote will take several years to design and print. In the meantime, the current $5 note will continue to be issued. It can be used even after the new ticket is issued.
