Lucy, who is fluent in Mandarin Chinese as well as Italian and Spanish, admitted that she did not reflect on the decision or do any research on it.

‘I just pulled the trigger. I can think of something easily; if I think too much, I won’t.’

‘It’s better for me to feel something and just go for it. Lots of people read books on parenting. I didn’t do any of that. I was like, “When the kid is here, I’m going to figure it out.”

The actress was sure that she wanted to raise her son in her native New York.

‘I definitely wanted to raise a child in New York. People will say, ‘It’s not convenient, you don’t even have a car,’ but that’s how they’re going to see all the things,’ she said.

‘You are going to show them what is safe and what is not, and they will understand it through experience. It’s hard to develop common sense when you’re in a car all the time. They will smell the smells.

The Critics Choice Television Awards winner said she takes the subway to maneuver the Big Apple, but approaches the experience more cautiously after the rise in anti-Asian crime during the pandemic.

‘There is a very different level of caution that one must now have. That’s real, and if you don’t acknowledge that, you’re being ridiculous,” she said.
