According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, Los Angeles Lakers’ LeBron James may be taking his talents to a new team next season.
James’ current contract currently has a player option for next season and allows him to opt into the final year of his contract or choose to enter free agency.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen to LeBron in 2025,” Windhurst said during an episode of the “Brian Windhorst & The Hoop Collective” podcast.
“I have a feeling that LeBron is going to play next year, but I don’t know if it will be for the Lakers, probably yes, but he has an opt-out.
‘There are reasons to discuss this.’
It is not certain that LeBron James will remain with the Lakers next season due to an option in his contract
James has long spoken about his dream of working with his son Bronny James in the NBA
LeBron ‘Bronny’ James Jr is currently a freshman at USC and eligible for the 2024 NBA Draft
James and the Lakers have struggled again this season and are currently 20-21
After the season ends, James has until June 29 to make a decision on his $51.4 million option.
The 39-year-old signed an extension in 2022 that could keep him in the Lakers jersey for at least the 2024-25 season, ever since he signed the contract – and long before the extension was made. – League insiders speculated that James had pressed the option so he could leave the Lakers and join forces with his eldest son, LeBron “Bronny” James Jr.
Bronny is currently a freshman at USC and will be eligible to declare for the NBA after the college basketball season concludes.
James has talked for years about his dream of playing in the NBA with his son and depending on how the Lakers might choose to make that dream come true this season and next year’s draft.
The Lakers currently have a record of 20-21 and are 10th in the NBA Western Conference.
LA managed to win the first NBA In-Season Tournament, but is 9-12 since early December.
So far this season, James has averaged 24.7 points, 7.5 assists and 7.2 rebounds, but that hasn’t been enough to push the Lakers past their second mediocre first half of an NBA season.
